Re: The Land of TOE Fungus

I like the permanent ban thing.

For example, if someone consistently disrupts high school, they are gone, as it is not fair to the other students.

On ToeQuest, the same should apply; those consistently being warned and banned, warned and warned and warned, time and time again, then banned again, this process repeating 6-8 times over, should go to one strike, one warning, then so long when again calling "fool"/"idiot" whatever; one free strike, then gone on the next. This is a professional place trying for serious discussion. We don't want people being afraid to post here. Naturally there is also some humor and socializing that is the glue of bonding people.

I have over 100 posts, over many many months, directly referring to people insulting and calling names in the previous post, and it is always the same 2 people. After a week or so, I report them, and they are gone for a while, then they return, stay good for a time, and then actually do the same exact insulting stuff again, even using the same names or obscene images used previously. It is as if they not only have no conscience, but seemingly no memory either. Just recently, someone forget to take her memory pills and wished that the site be X or R-rated [not be PG-13].

It goes like this general variation: why call names instead of addressing the post content? (more name called); why call more names? Talk to the ball and even kick it as an idea should be, but why kick the player instead by calling more names? (more names get called)… etc.

Re: The Land of TOE Fungus

I was mostly joking Wick (notice evil smilies), but thanks for the play by play.

We perhaps lose some members who are just stopping by due to the unprofessional nature of things around here at times, but I would say that's more of a reflection of their unprofessional nature if they haven't been directly offended. I post in many forums, and I've learned who to debate science, religion, social issues, etc, with and who not to, and I have very few problems with folks and have made many friends.

As far as the scientific members go, more often it's the case that they show up and post a theory that has much personal connection with them (as is often the case) and when everyone doesn't jump on their bandwagon and declare a ToE, they don't want to put the effort in to further their views, and find those here that they can develop their work with. This isn't a statement to you, because I know you've went out of your way to get many of us involved in your work, but many of our theories are often so different that we would more often find ourselves trying to persuade others to think like us; rather than think with the mind they were given. It's often hard to discuss science at the ToE level, which more often causes silence and mere reading of threads. If you'll notice, I follow your thread as I do most all science threads, I just feel that my views would perhaps distract you more than anything.

At the end of the day, I don't imagine the Nobel Prize folks are gonna come knocking on any of our doors due to what we have posted on this forum. Science to me is about working to further one's views, which is often accomplished merely by trying to explain them to varying types of people; otherwise this is more often done in solitary study rather than group interaction. When the work is done, then one could perhaps post and all would marvel at their brilliance.

    regards,

    Tim

Re: The Land of TOE Fungus

ToeQuest spurs creativity through synergy, one able to even make a completely new connection from two different sources. On an even higher group level, look the the success of The Root of Evil Thread coming to some excellent and unique conclusions, even with many realistic proofs provided.

Now and then, people even come up with brilliant "top ten" type posts, and, of course, other times, wisdom is far and few between the lines of a lot of silliness and repetition of various and ancient thoughts.

To create and be social and to see into the life of things is to live a being way more intense.

Just wish more people would join and stay such that some of the posting would be more like real time back and forth.

It is sometimes difficult to separate rude behavior from frank honesty but when it comes to vulgarity, it is not difficult no matter how members spell it. (Ph or F) The rules of the Kingdom of Toe are nothing more than common courtesy but sometimes obstinate ignorance can negate one’s right to receive such civil response from members; in such cases, who should be banned?

    Hi, Robert et al.

I'm wading in here. Thank you, Dave...Yes, "discourteous members," "obstinate ignorance..." For my part, contemptuous use of language and patronizing arrogance begs to be responded to in kind. Robert, shouldn't moderators be above such childish behaviour?

All this chit-chat but still no one addresses the fact that behaviour is weighted by the existing culture: established by your example.

In support of the myopic view taken by some, no one has remembered or referred to the casual use of swearing (with creative spelling) by anyone, except those whose views they hold in contempt.

Respectfully, my suggestion is for contributors to be able to "call out" someone to a "TOE-suckers playpen" where they must publically continue on-going dialogue until they sort our their misunderstandings and/or apologise, rather than the alternative which is to disrupt the line of discussion/debate of other contributors.

I don't see a problem with 'the casual use of swearing'. As Dave says the problem is related to rude behaviour and vulgarity, no matter how the Ph**** you spell it ....... rotflmao

Re: The Land of TOE Fungus

Well, the correct spelling of "Phuck[ing]" cannot be posted on ToeQuest due to something like "*******" being put in its place, so, this, I guess, either indicates that the word is not desirable here on purpose or that it was just a feature of some software used here.

4 posters in the history of ToeQuest got around this by being innovative and using the Ph*** form, 2 members doing it only once and 2 others doing it a lot of times. (other references were just that, as in the posts above, which don't count, and people calling it out in regard to its name calling use, which doesn't count either.)

Another member, even more innovative got the correct spelling across in big letters by typing it into an image and then posting the image.

In some areas of [low] society, not here on Toe, people use it as an adjective before every noun that they utter.

The ultimate use is "Phu** those phu**ing phu**ers", but perhaps someone can better this, using the word as even more than a noun, verb and adjective.

Re: The Land of TOE Fungus

Low society are those caught in poverty and they are a product of a society that failed them...I think at the TOE all people should be respected and certainly not labelled as from "low society"....they are people too!!!!!
