Re: New Moderator Intro - Leskey

Congratulations Leskey. Glad to see that others see your true value to the community. I think you'll be great for this position and I only hope that your new responsibilities don't interfere with your personal enjoyment of the forums and the debates we have.....even if it means you must ban your friends (i.e., me) on occasion....lol.

Good luck, and I wish you the best.

    your buddy,

    Tim

    More cheers for Leskey,
As she will eye the pesky,
    Though now with moderators new,
The violations should be far and few.

    Now, for what moderators do…

The moderator has to often split their personality, going from that mode and back to “normal”.

It should be no surprise that moderators have to see to the ToeQuest guidelines being upheld, plus show some kind of a response to posts reported.

I note that these guideline violations are often of the nature of religious preaching, talking about politics, short useless posts, cross-posting the same stuff to many other threads, name calling, posting images that children should not see, too much off topic stuff, too much social glue, broad brush stroking without particulars (it is both unfair and uncivilized), labeling contrary opinion as evil, and mistaking the person for their ideas and kicking them instead of the ball of the topic. This would seem to be a big turn off to prospective members that we sorely need.

(Robert makka da site, so he makka da rules.)

Beyond keeping those guidelines, it’s also important, in my opinion, that posts be clear, stating as much definition as possible and defining words that might not be in the mainstream as readily understandable; otherwise a very patient extraction may ensue before real dialog can get underway. Ditto for normal words that are being overloaded with a whole new meaning. Also, for ideas with some amount of imagination, or with no facts, one might say so or use “seems like” instead of the straight out “is” (implying loads of facts) that seems to make the point not even debatable.

All in all, the ideas would then have better chance of going places and so this is of great value to the one posting. Few enough responses come because of the few members that one would want to be heard even all the better.

Sometimes, composing responses off line in a word processor turn out quite well, since there's no rush or worry of losing it if the internet blips or time runs out or you have to run out somewhere.

Happy moderating and thanks, for it shows a deep dedication to ToeQuest being professional and of your character to take on the job.

Max Planck, said that “all matter originates and exists only by virtue of a force which brings the particles of an atom to vibration which holds the atom together. We must assume behind this force is the existence of a conscious and intelligent mind. This mind is the matrix of all matter.
