I have just implemented a new image gallery. As you may recall, a random image was displayed at the upper right column of the ToeQuest home page. This image was pulled from an internal image gallery of 29 images. You were able to click on the image to display the source website of the image. Unfortunately, that was all it did.
This new image gallery is much more powerful. Many more features are available and I've listed most of them below:
- Fully integrated with the website.
- Images are now assigned to categories.
- Members and guests may post comments to the images. Images with the most comments can be displayed.
- Members and guests may rate the images. Images with the highest ratings can be displayed.
- The number of views of an image is maintained and displayed on the home page. Popular images, with the highest number of views, may be displayed.
- Members and guests may view the new images over 6 different time spans, including since last visit.
- Members and guests may view the images with the most activity over 6 different time spans, including since last visit.
- Members may use and manage a favorites list.
- Members may subscribe to an image and receive emailed when someone posts a comment to the image.
- Members and guests may upload images and assign to a category. The images will be reviewed by a moderator before posting.
- A very advanced search facility is available. Search for key words in image description, title, and comments. A search can be narrowed to a specified time span, number of comments, or category.
- Members may start a slide show with images ordered by name, date added, comments, rating, views and last post date. A time delay may also be specified.
- The source URL, where the image was originally retrieved, is available along along with additional links for information relating to the image.
- Members and guests may prepare an image for printing, e-mail or for sending an e-card.
- Statistics are show for the gallery (categories, images, posts, views, disk space) and for each individual image (views dimensions, filesize, replies).
One additional feature is the ability for a member to own and manage a top-level category and several sub-categories. Since this uses a significant amount of website resources, the feature is reserved for paying
TOE Club members only. Go check this out when you get a chance and let me know what you think.
