    Breathing life into this forum

I'll be spending much time over the coming weeks breathing life into this forum. I'll do that through search engines submissions, increasing link count, updating category/forum descriptions, posting welcome messages to categories, and adding new categories where appropriate. I fully expect that at some point, a threshold will be crossed where this forum takes on a life of its own. I'm not sure what that threshold is or when it will be crossed, but that day is coming. One thing I've done is to add a new mailing list where you can sign up to receive notification when this forum starts to come alive. The metric I chose is when the number of postings reaches 50. There are other metrics, such as total membership, new members per month, total postings per month, etc. If you think there are other metrics that better indicate live-sustaining activity please post a comment. In the mean while, better get on that mailing list. Thanks!

I like the setup of this site

    but ......

    I can not log in,

and I want to contact someone (admin), but it keeps asking me to log in (or I'm blind

I would like to help "breath life in here" , so if someone could activate my account?

(thinking: If people register and can't login, usually they don't come back, I wonder if more people are having this problem, and thus being the reason for the virginity of the site).

    Sincerely su

    (member nr 17)

    Account Activation

Hi Su. Sorry to hear about your trouble logging in. Your account was marked as inactive so I went ahead and activated it.

The forum should have sent you an email when you registered. Perhaps you left an invalid email? I'll send you an update via email to check out that possibility. The email should have given you directions on how to activate your account. Clicking on a link in the email is all that is necessary to activate your account. I require account activation via email to reduce the possibility of rogue users abusing the board anonymously. Also, IMO, account activation tends to increase the quality of the forum community when members are less anonymous.

I'll be checking the account activation over the next day or two to verify that it is working properly. I'll also check other members accounts to make sure they are not in a similar situation. Thanks for bringing this to my attention and hope to hear from you again.

    Account Activation

I just reviewed all accounts and it looks like the following members have not activated their accounts:

    parker
    samcin4@juno.com
    jungjedi
    fusion57
    sublimit

If you are one of these people you can email me at robert@toequest.com and I'll activate your account. Or you can lookup the original email that was sent to you with the subject "Welcome to ToeQuest Research Forums" and visit the link contained within to automatically activate your account.

I'm considering not requiring account activation to avoid losing people. Any thoughts on this? I was trying to filter out the riffraff--less than serious TOE people--but I'm afraid I could be filtering out more than that.

Thank you very much, it works now
(I did leave a valid email- but never received any mail, however it is my own email-server, and due to "learning" process, it is very well possible it was not "recieving", the problem may have been on my side...., but thats ok now....

Re: Breathing life into this forum

After mkirkpatrick re-activated this old thread, I also get some reflection from the name of this thread "Breathing life into this forum".

To have different approaches in searching for TOE will give life to the forums of toequest. (life also means fresh/interacting ways)

Mainstreamers emphasize that scientific methodology and scientific features should be the essential approach for TOE. But, thinking out of the box with philosophy and metaphysics may give inspiration to the hidden Truth also.

I wholeheartedly agree with you bottomlander,we need a wholly differernt approach
to this equation,it must be inclusive and all embracing, thinking out of the box indeed.

Have you any suggestions of a way forward?

    regards michael.

    Dear mkirkpatrick,

For years, I tried to think with Physics to construct TOE. The trouble is that even physics can construct good theories with or without equations, they are still not ultimate.

There are only 2 approaches in Physics: Equations or Mechanisms. (Equations in Modern Physics are in spacetime and multi-dimensionality which expel physical reality. I am sure that Nature cannot manage Spacetime and multi-dimensionality. So, spacetime physics is not my taste.)
(Once without equations, Physical mechanisms need lengthly Introductions to persuade others.)

Recently, I try to employ philosophy approach for the Introductions. So far, more reasonable and readable.

    Regards. bottomlander
