How to Report a Bad Post

ToeQuest is a community of folks with a common mission, so we all need to work together. We should strive to build a strong community and encourage and consider a wide range of perspectives. "Bad posts" weaken a community and may suppress ideas that could benefit our quest. You are encouraged to report all questionable posts so we can make this a stronger community.

Whenever you run across a bad post please make use of the "Report Bad Post" facility (see image at bottom of this post). When you report a bad post, an email with your comment will be sent to any moderators of the forum and the administrator (me). The post will be reviewed and may be removed. Guilty parties will be contacted and could receive a warning.

A bad post is one that meets one or more of the following conditions:
    1. Rude or disrespectful language.
    2. Not related to the topic of the thread or inappropriate for the category.
    3. Distracting: too long, unreadable font, font too large, etc.
    4. Spamming.
    5. An attempt to hijack a thread, i.e. change the topic.
    6. Or anything else you think that needs the attention of a moderator.
There can and should be conflicting views expressed on topics raised in the forums; however, the discussion should remain professional at all times. Please review "Posting Guidelines" for more information.

Click the red triangular icon, enter your comment, and click "send report".

Point number 5 makes me wonder: If this person tries to change the topic but the rest of the posters don't disagree, actually the discuss about that new topic, and the thread starter doesn't mind abotu changing topic or even joints, is it aloud to carry on this new topic discussion? Or should it not happen?

This will be considered on a case-to-case basis, but generally, if it is a complete change of topic then a new thread should be started. This allows future posters to continue to post comments on the original thread. Also, the new topic will be more visible if it exists in its own thread, and allow more people to know about it and post to it. So if a topic starts to wonder off topic, I would expect for someone to suggest starting a new thread on the new topic. If a Bad Post is reported, the moderator may split the thread into two separate topics.

If the new topic is related to the old topic, then it may be appropriate to continue in the same thread since some of the context would be lost otherwise.

Just keep in mind that these are only guidelines, and I wouldn't expect anyone to report a bad post if nobody minds where the thread is going. A bad post should only be reported if a member makes an obvious or repeated attempt to take over the discussion of a thread against the wishes of the thread starter and other participants.

    Thanks for the help.

I wonder, is a moderator supposed to centre more on these kind of things when s/he reads trhough threads?
