Defining life is the same as asking a fish to define what they are swimming in (water) or what is water, but biologically, it's when brownian motion is applied to a larger and more advanced form of bodies. "Science is organized knowledge. Wisdom is organized life"
"But although all our knowledge begins with experience, it does not follow that it arises from experience."
"Happiness is not an ideal of reason, but of imagination."

One way of defining life would be to suggest that life comes from no-thing
and becomes an expression of some-thing,so there is no mis-understanding
I am NOT saying that life comes from nothing,as that is plainly impossible
and totally absurd, what I mean is that life came from the no-thing,which is
totally different.Life is expressed through many dimensions and many realms
of consciousness,we are aware of but a few of the total.Where we as mankind are exhibited we can through identifying with each other, penetrate
further into the outer coverings and sheaths of livingness, pushing back ever
further the mystery of manifestation.

I think the fundemental forces drive everything in the universe. Matter is like a branch lost at sea, drifting along and being pushed helplessly by the current (the fundemental forces.) Life is when matter reaches a point where it can break itself down and reshape itself and no longer has to be carried by the current. However, this is just an illusion, because even as this matter (life) begins to reshape itself, it is still under the influence of the current. That is to say, from inanimate to life, matter is carried along by this current towards a certain destination, and reaching a point where it can reshape itself and reach that destination quicker is when life is born. So where is the current taking us?

progresses we will at first be a few then the few will become the many who
begin to enter into cosmic consciousness,of which as yet we know nothing!

Non-life From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the physical sciences, non-life is an umbrella term set to distinguish or characterize those inanimate chemical precursors found in the primeval soup of the early years of planetary evolution from which life, theoretically, evolved or came into existence. In the classic 1953 Urey-Miller experiment, for example, non-living chemical entities such as water (H2O), methane (CH4), ammonia (NH3) and hydrogen (H2) were electrically-stimulated, using sparks as simulating lightning, into forming the various precursors to life, such as hydrogen cyanide, amino acids, simple sugars, etc. These, in time, would theoretically form RNA and DNA the building blocks of life. The fundamental method of philosophy is the use of reasoning to evaluate arguments concerning these questions ..

I have been using Einstein's formula to really define life (starting from the premise that life=energy). Then I started thinking about light, which has energy. Then I started thinking about motion, which is energy. Now I don't know what to think. I used to be sure that everything that has a physical manifestation has life (yes, even a chesterfield has life at a sub-atomic level). I could even go so far as to say that light has life. But motion? The first is only interesting if it is the beginning of something. The first is not interesting if it is the only - Djanet Sears

Yws Michael I agree ..
Motion is the force by which light is propelled .. for instance .. hold a naked flame to gas an see what happens .. the force .. ignites the gas into something new .. meaning everything is continuously changing in formal structure .. you are right though HG .. everything comes back to energy ..
