Re: What Does It Mean to Exist .. That is certainly the question that I had in mind. I do not want to restrict my query to only my own species, as I recognize life throughout. I am not certain about the relevance of different species reasoning abilities and the way this ties in with what it means to exist, perhaps you could explain the link? re: whales: can we say for certain that the whale doesn't do this? The common denominator of existence can be discussed in many fora: philosophically, scientifically, religiously, etc. To me, this indicates the answer may lie in the confluence of the disciplines, not in any particular one. Your interpretation of the Goddess includes only one recognized stream of beliefs. I do not believe that attempting to find answers with reference to only one of many belief systems will be effective. So just because the Goddess may be the truth behind the reason for our existence (and here I am referring not just to human existence) doesn't necessarily mean the Bible is true. It could mean the Tora is true, etc. In your example, the meaning for life would be the Goddess, which you defined as truth.
Actually for me the question was what does it mean to exist, because I was looking for the common denominator. Does math exist? If so, what does it have in common with a kumquat? (assuming of course, the kumquat exists). I would prefer to explore this question before assuming that existence has meaning(s) and seeking out that particular meaning or meanings.
