    Re: "Mind in my Matter"

Our limited perceptions may indicate to us an absence of the discernible.

Even in the apparent abscence of conscious thought, the flow continues.

Therefore, Greg, I agree with your statement, and the preconceived limitations you impose on yourself.

Be careful how cool you keep those bananas. Much exposure to cold will greatly limit their viability, except for making banana bread, LOL.

    Re: "Mind in my Matter"

The topic of mind over matter , as I read all of your threads everyone, I was impressed with the way you perceived that particular saying!
Now to ask the scientific community....what are your theories of which came first the chicken or the egg?
I think I know what you're going to say....
Now I'm using my what is it called when you know what someone is going to say before they say it? Intuition? Please, people humour me! Thank you everybody!

    Re: "Mind in my Matter"

Mind, being matter, is the brain, the term ‘mind’ focusing in on that part of the brain that perceives its own doings at a high level, but, only, of course, although 300 ms AFTER the brain has done its analysis.

The ‘mind’ is not to be confused with some invisible appendage hanging about via some extraordinary claim with 0 evidence, like the ‘soul’. No one is trading in their brains as useless.

To move other matter with the brain, just tell it to type a post or lift a glass. To move some matter that you cannot directly control, ask another mind to do it.

There’s no egg or chicken but that both mind and matter can move each other, since they are both matter (mass), which is equivalent to energy. E=MCC.

    Hello Tarina,

Have to mess with your mind by saying, "the pig" comes first.

Before you cook the egg, or eggs, you want to have the bacon done just the way you like it, the toast ready to push down in said toaster, butter softened, table set, one coffee inside of you and a fresh pot waiting!

Happens to be a weekend or holiday, you can add a little "stuff" to your coffee and depending whom you are sharing this meal with, you can get into quite a lengthy debate on which comes first....

    A tough question.

My definition of 'nothing' is when all available information has been collected, and is as complete as possible as allowed by the laws of Physics (regarding any event or circumstance), and no more can be had, regardless of improvements in technical ability, but it still does not total 100%, then the missing portion comprises nothing.

examples would be: non-zero values ? uncertainty ?

My definition allows for our limited perceptions.

    Re: "Mind in my Matter"

LONDON, England -- It's a question that has baffled scientists, academics and pub bores through the ages: What came first, the chicken or the egg?

Now a team made up of a geneticist, philosopher and chicken farmer claim to have found an answer. It was the egg.

Put simply, the reason is down to the fact that genetic material does not change during an animal's life.

Therefore the first bird that evolved into what we would call a chicken, probably in prehistoric times, must have first existed as an embryo inside an egg.

Professor John Brookfield, a specialist in evolutionary genetics at the University of Nottingham, told the UK Press Association the pecking order was clear.

The living organism inside the eggshell would have had the same DNA as the chicken it would develop into, he said.

"Therefore, the first living thing which we could say unequivocally was a member of the species would be this first egg," he added. "So, I would conclude that the egg came first."

The same conclusion was reached by his fellow "eggsperts" Professor David Papineau, of King's College London, and poultry farmer Charles Bourns.

Mr Papineau, an expert in the philosophy of science, agreed that the first chicken came from an egg and that proves there were chicken eggs before chickens.

He told PA people were mistaken if they argued that the mutant egg belonged to the "non-chicken" bird parents.

"I would argue it is a chicken egg if it has a chicken in it," he said.

"If a kangaroo laid an egg from which an ostrich hatched, that would surely be an ostrich egg, not a kangaroo egg."

Bourns, chairman of trade body Great British Chicken, said he was also firmly in the pro-egg camp.

He said: "Eggs were around long before the first chicken arrived. Of course, they may not have been chicken eggs as we see them today, but they were eggs."

I'm not entirely sure, but I think I favour epiphenomenalism. CLICK

I'm not fence sitting, its just that my mind hasn't fully caught up with my biology ........

on a conversational level I would have to say, although interesting, I cannot relate epiphenomenalism to my question. on a deeper level I would have to say "how much more can we give for your more"

    IMHO, we receive thought. Primarily.

Thought is raw data, which our brain stores and manipulates much as our computer does.

Emotion arises when our "data" interacts with our biology.

Affirming data supports the positive emotions.

Negative or conflicting data drives the dark emotions.

Our brain is more processor than storage, men and women's brains do work differently, as their biology demands different functions.

Individual variance, not all persons can receive, transmit, or utilize all data.

In the same manner as our wireless technology works, persons and animals have the ability to transmit certain data, albeit much weaker than our receiving capacity, with exceptions.

Working night shift may have a deleterious effect on my biology, so some of this data may be corrupted, LOL.
