Question Who is to deal with phillosophy of math?

I used to like philosophy of math. Than I liked doing math more that explaining how to do it. I`m a mathematician not a philosopher.

My question is: who is supposed to deal with phillosopy of math? a phillosopher? a mathematician? some body else?

To talk about a subject, one needs to have dirtied his hands on it?

I am not a mathematician and I am not a philosopher by profession but as a self-promoted physicist, I am in need of math to describe space-time quantization. As for the philosophy of math, I am referring to the following http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philosophy_of_mathematics
Time independence: [∂E(g)]²=[∂F(a)×∂r(a)]·[∂F(b)×∂r(b)] and Mass independence: a(tr(t)=c²

I think it depends. I mean, there is also philosophy of science, and you haven't doubt whether it must be done by philosophers or scientists. Currently it is done by both, but it is done by philosophy. What I mean by this is that whether it is a philosopher or a scientist who is doing the philosophy of science, is philosophizing about science. We don't scientitize about science. There is not a science of science, at least for the moment, so it is the role of philosophy, whether done by a scientist, a philosopher, or anyone else to philosophize. For to philosopize means it is a philosopher, at least for the moment. The same I believe with the philosophy of math. It's not a question about who does it, but about what is done. And what is done is to philosophize, in any philosophy of something, or any philosophical question (like, what is science? what is math? does math discover or invent? Is science purelly empirical?...).

Cool Re: Who is to deal with phillosophy of math?

    Hey Hanzoganz,
In my view, hopefully everyone will deal with this eventually. But you used "supposed to deal with" it, as if you consider it the proper providence of certain professions. I think that everyone should have at least a general understanding of the philosophy of math as it forms such a wide-spread backdrop to our understanding of 'reality'.

Yes, I was refering as who as a matter of profession.
Attending a maths congress and seeing a philospher seems weid, because of the difference on the language. i guess the same would be for philosophers listening to a mathematician.
But I agree with you that hopefully, everyone gets these toughts.
