Michelle, I don't know. We are trying here to look at "dark" as a separate being from light. I don't know how to do that.
If I say it is the absence of light I'm still talking about the light!
I don't think we are equipped to discuss dark separately.

Even "dark matter" means we haven't the foggiest what 90% of the universe
is made up of...
The same with "dark energy" which is blowing the universe apart like an exploding bomb.

We know something there is but don't know what...

It doesn't make sense that darkness is stationary, if it is 90% of the universe and the universe is expanding. Jim, I think I understand what you are trying to say, namely that darkness has its own characteristics, that we shouldn't define it simply in contradistinction to light?
