    Re: Phiolosophy of psychiatry....

Aldous Huxley, author of the utopian tract Brave New World, in a speech on the U.S. State Department's Voice of America, in 1961, of a world of pharmacologically manipulated slaves, living in a ``concentration camp of the mind,'' enhanced by propaganda and psychotropic drugs, learning to ``love their servitude,'' and abandoning all will to resist. "This," Huxley concluded, "is the final revolution.''

Speaking at the California Medical School in San Francisco, Huxley announced: ``There will be in the next generation or so a pharmacological method of making people love their servitude and producing dictatorship without tears, so to speak. Producing a kind of painless concentration camp for entire societies so that people will in fact have their liberties taken away from them but will rather enjoy it, because they will be distracted from any desire to rebel by propaganda, or brainwashing, or brainwashing enhanced by pharmacological methods. And this seems to be the final revolution.''

An important quote here concerning the issue in this thread....

    The Unfortunate

There are some remoter shores of human souls
    To which I help to restore life and spirit;
My prior life was but a preparation
For these trials and pains that love must give.

Deep they fall, into valleys of despair,
    Although for that the mountains wouldn’t be there;
But, it is difficult to see the tip
When you are at the bottom of the pit.

They have spurious feelings, many not true,
Taking them beyond, into the blue
    Of depression; though, abandonments
Were from those not able—no reflection on they.

For only can a great and noble cause
    Arouse humanity's profoundest nature.
    In smaller spheres, the mind of man contracts;
But with a nobler purpose, grows the greater.

And as this century is gravely ending,
And even what is real to fable turns,
When we behold huge forces locked in battle
And our portentous goal is hov'ring near,

And war is waged for man's most noble causes,
    For domination and for liberty--
So now, let art attempt to soar yet higher
Upon the shadow-stage; indeed, she must,
Lest she be put to shame by life's own drama.

"Hey, Old Man! What are you doing, wasting your time like this, throwing those stupid starfish back into the water? There must be thousands of the dumb things, and there's no way a gimpy old dude like you is going to rescue them all. What difference does it make?"

The old man, painfully bent over, and then examined the starfish he held slowly from several angles, allowing the young man to really see some of the details of it's being, likely for the first time.

After several moments, he replied, "Your observations are correct, young man."

Then he gently tossed the starfish into the ocean, looked him kindly in the eye and commented, "It made a difference to that one."

    Blessed Emotion

    Love, a Blessed emotion
    Transpires our persona
    Uniquely makes us whole
Seeds within that still silent place
Each of us calls our soul.
Grows like a tree throughout our lives
Branches out to touch and grow
    Truly makes us thrive.

    Love a Blessed emotion
Ours free for the taking and giving
    Grasp this Blessed emotion
Covet it close to thy heart
    Happiness shall alight thy soul
    Despair from thee will depart

    Love a Blessed emotion
Uniting the ties between two hearts
    Family, friendship
    Bond between man and woman
    Embraces and circles
Carrying your souls to a private and
    untouched place
    Suspended forever in eternity,
    Time and space

    Love a Blessed emotion
    Nurtured with care and grace
    Flourishes forever upon thine self.
    Open thy heart
    Acceptance and understanding of others
    Shall clearly enlighten thy day
    Love A Blessed emotion
    Uniquely yours
    When given away

    Re: Phiolosophy of psychiatry....

The use of meds is my rebellion against hurting people. It does make a difference to me. I don't want to be like my mother.

My mother is slipping into a deeper paranoia. She believes everyone is out to get her and that her neighbor is coming into her house to steal things like her comb and her other neighbor skinned a rabbit and threw it on the ice to make her mad. She was so sure of it she went out on the ice to remove the animal...it was a fish.

It's pretty scary. Both of my sisters have had her babysit their kids...until recently.

I'm not sure, but it seems if things are left untreated they can get worse. I'm scared for my mom. I don't want to lose her.

    Hello Racecar,

The term depression, as used clinically, has quite a broad interpretation. The following link gives some backround on the process of osmotic shock.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osmotic_shock

Near the bottom of the page is a link to:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osmotic...ation_syndrome

At the bottom of the second page there are links to other conditions that relate to osmotic shock.

For many situations, the use of medicine has considerable benefit, seemingly the lessor of two evils, so to speak.

You may contact me privately if you so desire. My schedule is erratic, but I will always reply as able.

Best regards and a wish for strength and wisdom as you pursue your journey.
