The probability of C - 04-01-2008, 03:56 PM

How can light made up of sub atomic particles called photons be scientifically measured to have a constant and absolute certain velocity known and symbolized as C, when science itself has proven that the measure of sub atomic particles has no absolute certainty and is only quantum mechanical or probable at best?
Isn't C then, only uncertain and probable too?

You have been given the answer many times throughout the forums.(it’s also easy to google it) Is there some reason you expect the answer to change? Only fools and politicians expect different answers to the same questions!

Was that an answer Dave?
What is the answer to the probability of C?
Or don't you know?

You are right MJA and I would assign it a probabilty of 99.99999999999999999999% give or take a quadtrillionth of a percent.

Hello MJA:
The speed of light is measured as an electromagnetic wave propagating across a vacuum. It is not measured as a particle for the very reason that you mention. These are two totally different types of measurement.

John[/quote?

So the speed of a sub atomic photon is not C?
How fast do photons go in a vacuum?
Aren't photons light particles?
What is a light wave made of?
What exactly is light?
Don't you just love physics?

Thanks Professor,
I'm gonna let you tell the science comunitee that they got it wrong, that the constant of C is BS.
All yours pal, but you can certainly count on me to back you up as always!

Hello MJA:
It has nothing to do with any of the above thoughts. It has to do with making a good measurement.

Resolution plus stability = accuracy.

(Stability = + or -) a fluctuation in terms of the
resolution = (what can be resolved)

The wave is simply much more stable (repeatable) so is used as the method indicated as the standard method to measure C.
This is very basic metrology. It is also why Dave as a metrologist gets frustrated when the basics of his profession are not understood.

John.
Obviously to measure something, one must know what that something is, right?
So John, to accurately measure light, you must know what light is.
What is light?
Dave, your an expert as John says, maybe you can shedd some light on light for me, please.
Is light an object of measurable simplicity that I am flailing to grasp, or is it more fair to say, no one has completely grasped light yet?
Do tell!
