Radiation with use of a mobile phone

When I was at school, I had this physics teacher who taught me the difference between ionizing and non-ionizing radiation.

Anyway, I'm not a physicist myself. But, on several websites, I've seen scientists claim that the radiation of a mobile phone is dangerous; and I've also seen scientists who were sceptical about this and who claimed that the radiation of a mobile phone is not dangerous.

Being a layman, I'm just curious to know whether science actually knows whether the radiation of a mobile phone is dangerous are not; and if they do, whether it's really dangerous or not? I would like to have a scientific answer.

I guess, there still has to happen scientific research; but in my opinion, in the mean time, it might be better to take no risk and to avoid radiation.

I don't intend to frighten people or to create a health scare, but...
what if mobile phones would really harm?

Re: Radiation with use of a mobile phone

Any form of radiation is 'bad' for the human biology and it's everywhere; radio, microwave, UV, wireless internet and the like. Cellphone radiation perhaps is 'more' harmful due to its close proximity with the human body.

I'm afraid I cannot offer a medical opinion, my limited knowledge reprives me of any credibility.

I've seen scientists claim that the radiation of a mobile phone is dangerous; and I've also seen scientists who were sceptical about this and who claimed that the radiation of a mobile phone is not dangerous.
Science based on consumerism is no longer science, it's just a bin full of personal opinions.

Re: Radiation with use of a mobile phone

All forms of radiation are harmful if sufficiently intense, but some can also be beneficial. Mobile phones use microwave radiation. It has no ionising potential, but it is of the right frequency to cause water molecules to spin and heat up. The intensity is much lower than that of microwave ovens, so the heating effect of having a cellphone near your head is much less than that of the hand holding it.

Re: Radiation with use of a mobile phone

I am not sure about cell phone radiation, but I know that not all radiation is harmful. Technically, infrared (which I think really is just heat) and all visible light are types of radiation. The issue is that mostly that higher-frequency radiation, as in ultra violet, x-rays, gama rays, etc., can be extremely harmful (even though moderate UV exposure is necessary for vitamin D and x-rays can help with bone displacements, they are dangerous if you are exposed for too long). Microwave radiation is actually a lower frequency than visible light and infrared, as are radio waves, which means that they are less powerful, though they might somehow still be harmful for some other reason.
