vBulletin Update - 02-23-2006, 12:59 PM

ToeQuest is currently running with vBulletin 3.0.3 with various bug fixes and enhancements pulled in from later versions. I'm currently upgrading to the latest version of vBulletin which is 3.5.4. I added over 30 separate hacks to existing vBulletin base include such things as the journal, guestbook, country flags, latex, image gallery and many more. Many of these have been upgraded for vBulletin 3.5.4 but it may take a little while time to roll the updated features back in. On the positive side, many new features are available for 3.5 that I'd like to start implementing. You can expect quite a few changes in the coming weeks so hold on and enjoy the ride.

This is a great progress for the chat. How big will e the image galler? Will we be able to put images ourselves?

The new image gallery will be integrated with vBulletin 3.5 and supports user uploads, videos, comments, user-created photo albums (public and private), categories and subcategories, ratings, and much more.

So far I've verified that the updated CMS (home page arrangement) and updated Article Manager work. You'll be happy to know that the Article Manager will preserve all previously written articles. Also, the AM has lots more features and gives me the flexibility I need to add some more features to ToeQuest that I've been pondering over.

One thing that would be cool is if images were autosized down when loaded, so they would fit into the buffer size allocated.

I may have some code that would help do that if you support activex controls. I'd have to look around though.

Thumbs up enhanced features.. - 02-23-2006, 06:04 PM

Why are you letting Robert do all the work, Tiny Tree? Just use the picture editor that came with your digital camera to resize the images you want to upload.

I have noticed some of the changes already, Robert, particularly with respect to integration of the ability to use a greater portion of the extended character set, I find that I've been able to incorporate some more symbols. It would be nice if we could have superscript and subscript added to the advanced editing functions but maybe that's a matter for the vBulletin developers. I don't know how far we can take the letex enhancements, having limited experience with exporting from math editors or importing in other than bitmap or other image format files. It might be useful to have some kind of tutorial forum started and recommendations for downloads of preferred math editing software.

Here is a link to a vast number of potential candidates. I've been evaluating some of them and there are is some interesting freeware there for the taking.

(that should keep you busy for awhile )

That would be a nice and needed feature. I'll check and see what's available with vBulletin 3.5. There are several auto-image resizing hacks available, so I'll check those out and see what I can get implemented. The activex controls may limit its appeal due to security concerns so I'll try one of the hacks first. Thanks for the offer though.
