Smile heavy reading helps lighten the day!

At the moment I am re-reading the book A Treatise on Cosmic Fire,by A.A. Bailey.Published by the Lucis Trust,New York.It has over 1300 pages and can
be a tad heavy. But as my grandfather always said (before "they" shot him)a
few words a day, helps keep ignorance at bay??

    kind regards michael.

Thanks but I was just trying to be funny. I don't like to bother Robert with anything unnecessary.

    Yes Robert, good poll.

I like to read an actual book before I pass out. I sit up in bed and stuff my face with things that are probably not good for me, (like chips) but my tastes in books are decidedly boorish compared to you elite readers here. War books (factual history only) describing battles, and I feel so sorry for the German submariner boys and the young Japanese lads that went into war without any hope of survival.

An off-topic aside to Harmonygirl...When we discuss Goddess and God we generally forget the d/evil side of both. Our concept of this is quite incomplete. What is good? Is it good to go to war and kill? Is it evil to punish a child with a stick to cause him to learn not to speak poorly of his minority neighbor? Perhaps there should be a thread or poll on this subject.

Cool Good and Goddess v. D/evil?

Good point Rufus. My conception of the Goddess (and I am aware that I am defining-which is bad!!) is not one of perfection, because nature is not perfect. I agree, right and wrong are just flipsides of the same coin but a lot of the moral or value judgements we use are kind of shortcuts in lieu of understanding background or subtext. Yes, I think there is a thread in this. Will you start it or shall I?

    Books and More

    1. How do you manage your reading time. Do you have specific times or places for reading specific books?
    2. Do you write notes or reminders in your books? Why not.
    3. Do you ever re-read a book. If so, do you immediately re-read the book or wait for a few months or years.
    4. Do you read all of the same type of book or are your interests varied.
    5. Do you prefer shorter books that get to the point, or really long books that provide a lot of detail.
    6. Do you complete the books you read?
    7. Where do you find time to read?
    8. How long do you read at a time?
    --Robert
I remember an instant when I read a book titled the Last of the Sunlight hours... It was so good... I read the whole book twice in a weekend... I was also newly married and hubby was shocked as I didnt cook him tea or make his lunch and as for breakfast... well lets say he learned to feed himself... mush to his dismay... this instant... I realised I needed to manage my time more wisely... regardless of being a speed reader.... if I was to fullfill my family obligations as mom and wife.
Now I find time to read... usually after having fullfilled parental and wifely obligations... although these obligations often require new input... when I have a particular problem... I use books as a resource... or reference... and I takes notes.... in this way I am able to clarify and learn....
I always complete books I read as it is never known whats at the end... or sometimes I just read the end.... quite often books are repetitive in their subject and its often the conclusion I seek as opposed to the general Idea.
Sometimes I prefer shorter books providing I hold some degree of information about the topic...although having said that... I would rather read the longer ones as they contain more of the information I seek...
I often take notes in order to contain the information I am reading and I will cross reference alot of information.... often broadening ideas...
I find time to read mostly when I need to... I have a library of literature and use what books I have as resources... although I find myself in the second hand bookshops resourcing ideas.... I visist the bookshops often....throughout my experiences and friendships is quite often... as I aide alot of people in their quest for the self... sometimes I dont even buy the books... I stand there and read em....
The best books are my text books.... I love these like old worn tshirts and even fall asleep with them on my chest... I reckon it causes the information to flow to the head... (hehehe) I think that... as writing papers and completing assignments have become an easy task.... Its the symbols I choose to remember I find the hardest.... especially for containment in logical order....
I also like to read the daily national newspaper.... The Dominion... often providing a great source of up to date information... especially in the area of science...
As for the amount of time reading... I read as often or as little as I need... after having ensured the house is tidy... as an untidy home leads to an untidy mind of disorder within which information is gathered in a disorderly fashion...

And lastly I would like to say thanks mom who built the library into what it now is... a wealth of information at a glance.
The fundamental method of philosophy is the use of reasoning to evaluate arguments concerning these questions ..

Talking Re: How many books are you reading?

Currently 3 that I alternate...However there are at least 3 others that I have started in the last 3-4 months that I will finish in the next 3-4 months. Currently in the middle of 2 Gary Zukav books...The Dancing Wu-Li Masters and Seat of the Soul...and always perusing the Bible or some type of scripture, I think there are some deeply hidden truths there.
Will be reading "The Divine Matrix" shortly.
    - I often underline or even write notes in the books themselves.
    - My interests vary, usually, I go through phases of 4-5 months reading the same/similar topics. I also seem to alternate periods of fiction and non-fiction (sometimes I just wanna escape with a great story).
    - I hope to eventually, someday finish all the books I still have waiting for me.
    - Usually read @ home, anywhere from 15" - 3', time and family permitting, of course..
    - GREAT POLL, AND I'M GLAD I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO READS MORE THAN 1 BOOK AT A TIME

One on philosophy, one on physics and one on phenomenology. They are all related.
(George Berkeley, 1710) ... lay the beginning in a distinct explication of what is meant by thing, reality, existence: for in vain shall we dispute concerning the real existence of things, or pretend to any knowledge thereof, so long as we have not fixed the meaning of those words.

"All things come out of the one and the one out of all things." - Heraclitus
"Reality is an illusion - albeit a persistent one." - Einstein
"Particles give me a headache." - Ibid
