Re: What happens after you die?

"I do not believe physics and religion to be mixed."

Physics is religion. If there be a conflict between the two you better change your mythology.
Now to a little speculation: suppose I lived for x years and "now" am officially dead. The TIME I occupied with those years...that segment in the stream: it may be somewhere, probably unaltered like an old town in space/time.
Not sure what good it does but there are not just two or three things we don't know about. The world is full of such things.

Speak for yourself, Chicken, peck-peck-peck... My father died an a-thiest, I was there, He threw the preacher out of the room just hours before he died___I will also. True logic accepts no foolish magic of any type of meta-bs. I'll accept true metaphysical feelings, but not its false insanities, which usually overwhelms it...

I've already chewed on my share of guns, knives and bullets. No Fear-No Fear-No Fear. I'm just crazy enough___I don't care... I die, I die___big deal___not... You forget I was Irish...?

OK, GOD-BOY...?

regards,

Re: What happens after you die?

Ah, that infernal religion again. In low dosages a common denominator for immature people, in high turning same into crazed killers.
You will not get rid of it my friends. Best you can do is get it into harmony with current realities so you don't clobber each other over who was a virgin and which half of who was "god" and despising the folks they stole 80% of the whole thing from, story book actors and all...

I'm fairly sure though of a psychological thing. The ego, (the I, the soc sec # owner) is not as important as I used to think. It is not the "I" that dreams for example. Fear of death (or dissolution)in organic and inorganic things may simply mean the game to keep the ego together, not that other "I" that dreams.

Fluffy may be loath to be torn apart by a dog but sometimes it can't be helped. There'll be other Fluffies inside and out as good as the one that perished - it may not matter. Especially not to the cat.

Re: What happens after you die?

From what I have read it seems like a lot of people are willing to accept the fact that they go in the ground and thats that. I could be picking this up wrong but i'm getting the impression that the atheists are proud to meet this end. I can't understand this.

I am not a religious person so honestly I have no idea what happens. I will be the first to admit that I am terrified not to exist anymore. It's not like I am afraid of some hell because I actually think that is unlikely to even exist. I just can't comprehend not experiencing in general. I really hope after I die that there is actually something thats makes me myself, and whatever that is lives on in someway. I would not like to think that I am just a product of chemicals in my brain. Even though that is a possibility as I see it and my worst fears come true.

If I could choose what happens I would want my metaphysical self to fly through the cosmos like Jodie Foster's character in the movie contact and take in the beauty of the universe.

Re: What happens after you die?

Hi Jim,
I want to reintroduce you to the fact that so many things happen on your behalf without you ever even knowing it. Angels are the worst braggers. Your sensitive nerve endings will fail. And when that ends, your angels can really start to introduce you to the wonders that physics and the universe have to offer. All I can say in truth is that you are in good hands. And the more you can take in, the more you will be introduced into the cosmos.
Your desire to want more is all the ticket you need. Here's to looking forward to seeing you in the stars.
Love,
Michelle

There is no conflict, physics and religion are orthogonal. Suppose tomorrow you know not just 2 or 3 things more, say you know 300 zillion things more. Would you say you know enough there is nothing more to be explained? Would everyone stop believing there is nothing more to know, God is absolutely a predictable quantity? Well in that case there is no more religion, only physics, do you agree Jim?

Re: What happens after you die?

I think we can agree that humans in general do not like death, deseases, old age and total memory blow out (birth). If anyone should disagree let me know.
Further I have no doubt that a creature that in 100 years learned to fly and land on the Moon will sooner or later correct these system faults.
There are several avenues open. The current high temperature flesh and blood system probably will not be part of the solution. Super conductivity near absolute 0 using various materials have been suggested for eternal consciousness maintenance, consciousness clusters and consciousness forms we cannot imagine now. So much for physics for the moment.
The mythologies of the Greeks I think was the last sane and useful system, indigenous to the West. Why? Because it created imperfect immortals who very much resembled us humans. Aside from abs 0 and superconductivity those "gods" (some call them "angels" from the other tradition), those Greek gods are us in the future existing in the physical universe obeying physical laws engaged in activities like playing black hole football? How would I know? This future is uncertain and hasn't happened yet?
I am not so sure. Either way.

Re: What happens after you die?

I believe religion is simply a venue for us (and beings similar to us) to express something which we do not know what we are talking about, to satisfy ourselves that we do have a complete picture of everything. I think we should respect this forum to be about Theory of Everything physical (which includes things which have not been found physical. May be 'life' after death is physical, who knows. For now life and death is a religious matter for me, in the future may be not.) As we know more, the diversity of religious believes narrows but there will always be something left which only faith can answer. End of my blurb.
