The cemetery was where the ducks were fed,
Where us friends feasted on wine, verse, and bread
Amidst the flowered trees and quiet streams—
The home for both the living AND the dead.
We lived at once, aware that life was dear,
Oft smiling at Heaven and Hell without fear;
Yes, we had some laughs, gave true love, and made
Life better—for it was now and we were here.
From Heaven’s stars came our dust eterne;
Time’s seas nurtured thee and thine in turn.
From time, death, and dust we thus became,
And by this, thus, and that we must return.
All the world’s wealth can’t extend the power
That drains the cup and withers the flower.
What would be the price of a moment’s breath
Purchased from Death’s hand at the final hour?
Oh, no, reader—of course I’m not yet dead,
As though it may appear that you’ve just read;
No, I’m living, oh, I’m living a poem
I’m living all the words that I’ve just said.
Now my cup was nearly empty and done;
There was left but one last drop for the sun
To drink, or with which to make rivers run:
Its flavor burst in joy—my life was won!
Refreshed, I wandered among the tombstones,
Under which rested little more than bones,
Where from the life had fled when dreams were dead,
Which under me became life’s stepping stones.
The Gita talks of difference between intelligence and emotion. Nothing on the brain on physiological aspect is mentioned

You are correct there Dip,however there was known of the difference,even if it was not
mentioned in the purely physical aspect of a material brain,they knew of the difference.

Hmmm... they still thought mind ruled, without understanding the fact that mind is just a state of the brain...

See what David Maes has done - initiated a seriatim of questions and answers orbiting the ultimate mystery. What happens after you die? Algebra immediately steps in and introduces the approximate question, 'What happens before you're born'. In the midst of that equation is the mortal coil asking the questions. There are many people who think that the universe depends exclusively on their existence, and that it didn't exist before that person was born and won't exist after that person dies. The only profound quality of such thinking IMHO is how anyone could possibly be that egocentric. And, if they're right, there's a different and temporary universe per mortal human lifetime. Meahwhile, supernovae are extinctifying entire solar systems as we write and read. The universe clearly doesn't blink on and off with the scintillations of individual human life times.
I was cliff climbing on one occasion when I suddenly had to fight panic and froze. About a hundred feet beneath me was nothing but large and small boulders with seagulls and the sea flying and breaking around them. It occurred to me that if I should fall the sea would continue it's dance and the gulls would continue their flight patterns and songs, everything would go on just peachily with out me. It wasn't the first time my insignificance overwhelmed me, but it was one of the more memorobale. Needless to say I managed to resume my perilous climbing journey to a more secure location. No. Life isn't cheap, it is precious, and, it's equally temporary. A flash in the pan. Been coming and going on for a long time. And the mystery that accompanies it is as old as sentient consciousness. Thanks for the inspiration. Personally, I think I more or less agree with all of you...
Oh thee, of thine, whence came this life of mine?
I wish thee to thank for such living wine.
Oh Nature, Father Time, Guiding Star—
Thanks for throwing me this earthly lifeline.
Luckily, I live at peak atop life’s pile
Of miraculous lives through eons of wiles.
I’m alive, thanks to all who have come before,
So—how could I live by any style but smile?
Pretend that you’re dead and gone, siting on a star,
And regretting the emptiness of life’s memoir,
Thinking, If only I could live it all again!
Fancy yourself not here, then smile because you are!
Say Farewell! Heaven’s promise is bereft.
Still, live with gratitude—be not distressed;
Yet, dismiss immortality’s dream;
Accept, with appetite, whatever’s left.
I’ve said Good-bye to the dream of forever;
I’m too philosophical to be bitter.
Poignantly resigned, I accept, with hunger
And joy, all that’s left—whatever—with pleasure.
'Twas a time before birth when you were not;
'Twill be a time again when you are not.
From Death your life was a borrowed debit;
Spend it, love it, and live it to your credit.
With planets found that can harbour life... all the violence over race, religion, colour, tribe, language etc.. seems trivial when we look at the possibilities that the universe holds in terms of life... who are we?? Just another civilisation in the billions of civilisations that exist in the Universe...
