Difficult to conceive I know but possible. I base this on the notion that matter is a constant - nothing being added or subtracted over time. Space has proven to be infintesibly more and more microscopic. We can't magnify enough yet but you imagine to potential for infinity there.
The re-arrangement of matter is what brings the illusion of 'coming into existance' but there is really nothing new just re-arranged or re-distributed. This universe does not require a first cause. It just is???
The alternative is that something can come from nothing which is impossible for me to conceive.
This does not really address shape - but what shape is infinity.

| | Re: Is the Universe Open, Closed, or Flat? Hi Tina; Welcome to ToeQuest. Being a theist I believe God just created the universe, otherwise, I agree with you it's impossible to create something from nothing. So do believe in the steady state theory of the universe? I believe the evidence for the Big Bang theory grows daily. But who knows for sure? I'm not sure about the shape of infinity, maybe the same shape as eternity. Best to you, and again welcome to ToeQuest. Pat | | | | 6th degree Black Belt

| | Re: Is the Universe Open, Closed, or Flat? Hi Profpat
I am agnostic but I would have thought a theist would perceive an infinite God in infinite space. My view does not allow for the creation of new matter so no Steady State universe. If you believe Judeo Bible God is "I am" alpha and omege etc. How does that fit into cosmic view? | | | | Moderator

| | Re: Is the Universe Open, Closed, or Flat? Hi again Tina; I do view God as infinite and eternal, and maybe his creations, but not necessarily so. I think Genesis describes evolutionary steps starting with a universe being created and ending with the final step, that being man. It's only now that science is agreeing with that. How Moses knew that is beyond me. It's the only creation story so accurate. So that might be the Alpha part. As far as Omega ( the end ), who knows. But I'm also a Buddhist, a Taoist, and others. I have my own brand of theism, with a main belief in a personal loving God. It helps me to quit worrying, but you really have to believe for it to work. warm regards michael. | Yes but that does not sound very scientific does it? We always seek explanations of things - not "it is what it is it is" if that expresses it | | | | 6th degree Black Belt

Thats absolutely right Tina,it is not scientific at all, rather it reflects the reality of
how it "IS"? Reality Tina, has absolutely NOTHING to do with science, but all to do
with the way it IS.
Good to hear from you,I see you are getting into the swing of it,keep up the posting.
warm regards michael.
