Distractions - 05-28-2006, 01:47 AM

When we set goals we humans tend to get distracted for psychological reasons. We all seem to have psychological triggers that, when triggered, light up our emotions and then we just want to argue. Of course, the arguing doesn't help and shuts down any future communication that might help us reach our goal. We're very robotic in how we respond to certain stimuli and have to overcome this to reach the TOE.

As humans we have the ability to stop and think before responding; our response don't have to be automatic. I find that it helps to keep your goal in mind when discussing topics with others. What you see as rudeness in others may not be what was intended. I've read that a persons impact when communicating is 7% what is said, 38% on how it is said, and 55% on body language. So, in these forums, you're not getting the full range of impact that you would if communicating in person.

Wouldn't this be a better world if we were all just like Spok Well ok, maybe not.

Very true, Robert. We all get driven by discussions out of the original discusion, and our aim. A world full of Spoks would be the most annoying place ever. But if our species has managed to develop science, philosophy, art, technology, economy, politics, civilizations, societies, cultures... We can, no, we must, continue, increase and improve them.

You're absolutely right Robert! I have learned that often what we percieve is very different from what was intended, at least partially due to our own filter. I have also found that internet messages are a very difficult medium for conveying subler emotions (irony comes to mind) and should be limited to straightforward communication.

Clearing a Past .. will free one from the "distraction in the present" - Ashley

Firstly .. I wrote this article for something else .. secondly .. anger is the most accessible human emotion of mankind .. and .. have you seen "The gods must be crazy?" ..an Australian movie .. and a good definition of what I mean ..

Did you know of the around 120 emotions humanity is taught to feel .. only 12 of these emotions are necessary for development and growth .. Of the 108 emotions left .. these are all about deficient needs of the self .. see Maslows' Heirachy of Needs and also Erik Eriksons developmental stages and tasks ..

We have the ability to learn fear before we turn the age of one .. this is set in place by our care-givers .. by the age of 2 fear is well set in place for a lifetime .. from this moment on .. anything that becomes upsetting and emotional gets stored away in a closet .. deep within our soul .. or insitu ..

In this closet will be all the things we dont like about ourselves .. we have been taught to "not" like them .. for example .. "I wanted to be a ballerina .. but my dad was always telling me I was too fat" .. I become upset and have so many feelings .. and because I am unable to deal with them I store them away .. From this moment on I will be self conscious and may consider my self too fat for particular situations .. when triggered ..

Over a period of time these emotions begin to well .. and we have also created within our mind a defence mechanism to ward off any danger of these emotions surfacing its almost like a closet projector .. cos we show it .. we adapt to the harshness of the critics in the world .. mostly from family and peers .. or teachers and other influential people ..

When we come across a situation where we feel unsafe all the defence mechanisms of past experiences come into play .. almost automatically like something turned on the projector .. .. we are then deemed programmed .. and run on automation ..

As we grow .. if these issues are not dealt with .. emotions knowing no logic .. continue to play a major part in our lives .. until such time as we become aware to our own self .. and our own particular way of being ..

In having stated all this .. one needs to feel to touch and touch to feel .. the key is in awareness .. of the conscious self ..
Maybe its time to clear the past .. that way it will no longer affect you in such a limited way .. sit with your feelings .. its not like you havent been there before .. hehehe

On a lighter note .. have you noticed there are many people in this world .. where all you need to do is pop in a quarter and press play for instructions?

Nice post Robert .. thanks ..

Ashley
