Cool Re: The Meaning of Life

Thanks Ash, you have gotten me thinking about the sorrow aspect. This seems to permeate Buddhist philosophy and others, (the Jewish faith). I don't know that 'getting over it' is correct, I think you need to fully experience it, but am rethinking...

    Re: The Meaning of Life

Very cool thread. and Mother Theresa was a wonderful woman!

To Live is to Create- to live is to express, and to express you have to create. Creation is never merely repetition. To live is to express oneself freely in creation.

The life of perfection is the simple life - A simple life is one of plainness, in which profit is discarded, cleverness abandoned, selfishness eliminated, and desires reduced.

It is the life of perfection which seems to be incomplete, and of fullness which seems to be empty.
It is the life which is as bright as light, but does not dazzle. In short, it is a life of harmony, unity, contentment, tranquility, constancy, enlightenment, peace , and long life.

I borrow heavy from Asian Philosophy.

There is no answer. Life must be understood from moment to moment.
An assertion is Zen only if it itself is an act and does not refer to anything asserted in it.

    Re: The Meaning of Life

We may choose to give life meaning, but is it necessarily so that life must have a meaning? Life may just be, and it may be an evolutionary benefit for humans who wanted meaning to their lives to have survived, and therefore passed on their genes including the ones tainted with a desire for meaning, but I don't believe that there is a meaning to life.

Robert, the fan belt may have symbolically been the correct answer.

    Re: The Meaning of Life

To want to preserve life gives life meaning......

    To realize
    The value of a sister,
    Ask someone
    Who doesn't have one.

    To realize
    The value of ten years,
    Ask a newly
    Divorced couple.

    To realize
    The value of four years,
    Ask a graduate.

    To realize
    The value of one year,
    Ask a student who
    Has failed a final exam.

    To realize
    The value of nine months,
Ask a mother who gave birth to a stillborn.

    To realize
    The value of one-second,
    Ask a person
    Who has survived an accident.

    Time waits for no one

    Treasure every moment you have.

To realize the value of a friend or family member:

    Is when you LOSE ONE.

    Life has meaning and value.

    purpose and meaning

Now listen very closely and I will explain the nature of reality and the meaning and purpose of life, but before I do, let me ask you one question: "Why do you want to know?"
