    Saturday Night Rules!

    Working for the weekend....

That is certainly the case in much of our western world.

And the range of diversions that we entertain ourselves with is rather mind boggling, if not downright mind altering...

So, in my twisted little female mind, I am sitting in my cave, and wondering just how this arcane little custom has come into being.

Just what is the history and psychology behind Saturday night?

On the 24 hour clock, my Saturday night starts just after midnight on Friday, in less than 1/2 an hour.

I shall be tripping the light fantastic organizing the price check brigade and trying to convince my gentlemen helpers that we are having a good time, lol....

So.....what is it that you do on a Saturday night? Are you hard-wired to work or to play? A little or a lot?

C'mon, c''mon....show me what you got!

Here's the Bay City Rollers to get your mind in the groove....

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLyvs...eature=related

And, yes, I realize I may have to wait for some of you to recover before I can expect your in-depth analysis of what motivates a significant portion of our society and economy and perhaps impacts national demographics....
So many paths to the same destination,
would, but I could, experience them all...

Saturday night is me time. I work hard for the weekend. And end up doing chores, errands, and work hard on weekends. I purposefully take Saturday night out for me. To recharge my batteries, duties call again first thing the next morning, ushering at church.

It's all play! The work is just an anticipatory down payment ... the tease ... build up, release, rinse and repeat

I can't think of any other reason to work. It's great when someone does something charitable or helps someone else ... how could you possibly fault someone for working to help others, but I don't think people have an obligation to society or nature ... and probably not even a god, if one exists - if there's a benevolent creator to it all, I can't imagine it mandating people be masochists and if there is a creator, but it's not benevolent, then I don't have much sympathy. If there's no creator - there still appear to be consequences to actions and people are naturally held accountable for their actions. There's no reason to add any more problems to the picture than the inevitable consequences of ones actions.

Notice something about human nature - we've got perfectly good opportunities to create movies that are hours of nothing but watching people sit around and lounge in the sun and eat grapes raining down from heaven like mana ... but how many stories or movies are like that? At a minimum there's some stylized cartoon prankster causing some problems if not something downright malevolent and evil plaguing things.

Even something like a game of chess or growing a garden has some elements of conflict and resistance to it and one thing is selected over something else (did real knights have to fight sometime in order for chess to be invented or would there be nothing to cultivate in a garden if there were no weeds or do real knights have to fight because there are games of chess and do weeds have to exist because we want to cultivate some fruit?)

Maybe someday I'll know, but for now it seems like you pay your dues just waking up in the morning and keeping food in your stomach and it doesn't appear to matter how well off people are, they'll still complain that someone elses air conditioning is better or that their car gets worse gas mileage than someone elses etc., ignoring the fact that kings thousands of years ago never had any of these luxuries and it's great not to have to clean up after horses .

I don't know but it seems like people have probably created work and problems so that they can resolve them and play later. If there were no obstacles how could you touch anything? (And there are lots of fun things to play with that require touching! )

I'm NOT encouraging creating problems (it seems like there are plenty already) ... but it may be inevitable that some minimal amount exists in order for the rest to ... maybe there's a way to minimize the problems? I don't think it would be bad to have to go through one problem in order to have the rest be play. I could do that!

    Re: Saturday Night Rules!

Well, well, well, now I know what some of you are up to when the wench is away, flogging labels, as in the grocery trade, it's all about the price you pay, and we want our customers to have accurate information when they make their shopping decisions. Musn't incur any dreaded 'Code33's' for inaccurate pricing. Labelwench and her fellas, the Night Stalkers ,are the swat team of night retail, and we take our mission (but not ourselves ) seriously.

Many don't know, but most stores follow the scanning practice rules. If the shelf price is lower than the item scans for, you are entitled to receive the item for FREE up to a $10.00 value. There will be a notice posted (in fine print) close to the entrance if your store honors this policy.

Deal of the day: 3.78L of a top brand name juice, apple, orange or wildberry for 4.98. Even I grabbed one to make fruit smoothies with.

Anyway, despite considerable operational difficulties from label headquarters, we managed, despite long odds, to achieve our priorities. No one was sleep deprived, those on prescibed meds were on an effective dose, and we rocked.....all night long!

That's how some of us choose to spend Saturday night, and have been so doing for many years. (In case any of you suspect that I might be a bar floozy by the time I spend at the many world's pub, I've been to a bar once in the last 10 years. Note: I did not say that I don't enjoy a drink!)

Here's another Saturday Night song for y'all....

Performed by Cat Stevens and originally written by Sam Cooke.

I wonder how big that Holy Mother of All blessed Problems would have to be,
    at least
to give birth to a 'work's* out for ever' sign.
