    under the weather

    hi everyone,

when moments of above normal temperatures are followed by moments of below normal temperature while the overall temperature is rising, that is a good indication that you are sick.

there is no reason why the earth would be any different.

    hi graybeard,

in this case normal is being used in traditional definition: regular, or average if you prefer.

    hi meem,

well, we (humans in general) are currently making and doing things that contribute to its sickness.

I suppose what I really meant was that the Earth tilts on its axis thru yearly cycles, and varies considerably in its cyclical pattern over eons. ice ages come and go. Why do you see the current cycle as abnormal

    hi graybeard,

the expected cycles are occuring. plus the creation of destruction that humans are capable of.

I wouldn't argue against that idea too much. Not meaning to step on any one's toes with what comes next (no wooden mutilation!) but, the science of ppm rather than percentages is showing it's not "normal." Whatever nature is we are a part of it, so in that regard, it is not abnormal. I suppose it's just a new "peak" in a timeline of change that hasn't come to it's end yet. Perhaps our warming (and what not) of the planet is going to fast-forward us into an ice-age. Not quite via The Day After Tomorrow. Maybe I shouldn't have moved to Colorado!! Most data patterns indicate when the temperature rises, ice ages aren't far behind. Man: the earth's (running a fever) cold-virus? lol ... I know, it's not that funny, but hey ... what can we do? Second thought, maybe it's in what we don't do

please don't mistake my humor for insult Gunnar, it's a litte outta whack ... or in whack I guess

    Re: under the weather

    Merely an observation.

Whitehorse made the news yesterday, in that we had our largest overnight snowfall since records have been kept, 12 cm or about 8 inches.

While this is not impressive compared to some regions, for these parts, that has been our annual snowfall in some years, this considered a semi-arid climate. It was 'tough-sledding' looking after the horses yesterday, and in order to put my stallion fellow into the barn, I had to dig open the door first, and then break trail to carry water to them all and to access the stored hay, as the winds had blown snow into all of the open sided hay shelters.

I'm off to attend their care again, by headlamp glow, as my schedule is such that they get a feeding at this time of day, which is when I am usually readying the vehicle for work. A night off today, so back to bed thereafter.....Yay! Oh yes, must also keep watch for the moose which has decided to hang out in our neighborhood.....and the little red vixen who frequently helps me with chores, although I expect she'll be asleep in my friend's barn with her horse in these conditions.
So many paths to the same destination,
would, but I could, experience them all...

The Earth has caught the flu, having chills and fever. It's below freezing in Miami. Maybe all the heat went to Australia.
