    Hi Nimit;

The closest I could find was:

I think I can safely say that nobody understands quantum mechanics.
    • The Character of Physical Law (1965) Ch. 6; also quoted in The New Quantum Universe (2003) by Tony Hey and Patrick Walters
    • Unsourced variant or misquotation: I think it is safe to say that no one understands quantum mechanics.
But maybe Steven has his quote that he mentioned. Too me close enough.

    Best,

    Pat

Nimit, I forget, sorry. It was from one of my favorite books on Physics. They're all good.

    - The Quantum World by Kenneth Ford
    - The Age of Entanglement by Louisa Gilder <=== most likely candidate, wonderful book
    - Lisa Randell's book I forget its name
    - Facts and Mysteries in Particle Physics by Martinus Veltman

@ MJA - You bet your sweet bippy Quantum Physics and all Physics has spawned plenty of Philosophy. Relativity turned the 1920's into a sexfest ties with the 1960's as the sexiest decade ever in the 20th Century, because laymen thought it mean "Everything is relative, including Morality," and that is SO not what the Special and General theories say. With QM/QP, it became "Everything is uncertain" and Many Worlds is the favorite home of all athiest philosphies. It totally backs their belief system while boggling our minds.

Having said that, there are two kinds of philosphies, good, and bad. Pop philosophy is usually bad. Good philosophy is based on logic, not speculation. Then there are two kinds of speculation: good and bad. When the good speculations are analyzed logically and found to be your favorite word (mine too): TRUE, then the speculation has graduated to a (good) Philosophy.

I'm liking the other stuff you wrote. Be sure to stick beauty and love in there somewhere. See Moulin Rogue the film for reference.

Is anyone else having a problem editing their posts? I was able to do it one time, but every other time I get the eternal hourglass icon.

Steve I find sometimes when I post that it comes up as there has to be so many minutes between posts...even though it is my first post. I have discovered if you just go to top of page and click on the thread name, you go back to the thread and your post is entered....maybe its a glitch in the system....lol....

    Dear Profpat and friends,

My paper was referenced on "The Character of Physical Law" by Feyman himself. But it is not joking!

I guess Professor Feynman had a sense of humor. Something I believe personally is more important than the T.O.E.

Me too, and Wolfgang Pauli had a funnier sense of humor yet! What follows is my favorite humorous Physics anecdote, from the Wiki entry on the greatest English Theoretical Physicist of the 20th century, Paul Dirac:

Werner Heisenberg recollected a friendly conversation among young participants at the 1927 Solvay Conference about Einstein and Planck's views on religion. Wolfgang Pauli, Heisenberg and Dirac took part in it. Dirac's contribution was a poignant and clear criticism of the political manipulation of religion, which was much appreciated for its lucidity by Bohr, when Heisenberg reported it to him later. Among other things, Dirac said: "I cannot understand why we idle discussing religion. If we are honest—and as scientists honesty is our precise duty—we cannot help but admit that any religion is a pack of false statements, deprived of any real foundation. The very idea of God is a product of human imagination.... I do not recognize any religious myth, at least because they contradict one another...." Heisenberg's view was tolerant. Pauli had kept silent, after some initial remarks, but when finally he was asked for his opinion, jokingly he said: "Well, I'd say that also our friend Dirac has got a religion and the first commandment of this religion is 'God does not exist and Paul Dirac is his prophet.'" Everybody burst into laughter, including Dirac

    That's good Steven:

Here is another with link to many more:

Some people say, "How can you live without knowing?" I do not know what they mean. I always live without knowing. That is easy. How you get to know is what I want to know.
