Now to be even more picky, mass is a measure of the inertia property of matter. This permits quantitative comparisons of material objects but not quantitative amounts of a fundamental substance. Mass can actually be viewed as the quantity of “Potential Energy” of atomic particles; that’s why mass and energy are interchangeable. Do you really think that accelerating an object can really increase the amount of its substance? We don’t have a real quantitative measure of fundamental substance.
It is those who are not so picky that cause so much confusion about science.![]()
