Tina;
I miss you and your intelligent posts. You need to start a new provocative thread.
Best,

SB_UK hasn't been around for ages…
Without reading the full 564 pages of replies, I trust you will forgive me, Tina, if I just walk off the plank without coercion.
No thing is good or evil of itself, but becomes so in the manner in which we regard or think of it.
Let's grab a biggie. Thought shalt not kill.
Yet how many Mothers out there would not take a life or offer up their own, in defense of their child?
It is appropriate that you enter now and walk off the plank because this Thread will soon be put to rest anyway.
But you are correct - concepts make all the difference.
My actual answer was basically that "the concept of Good is the root of all concepts of Evil." Ideas of Good always put everything else into relative contexts.
Thanks for literally "dropping" by![]()
Hi Tina,
I think I said something very similar (page 359) so I agree with your answer.
I guess the sprout of evil would be-arrogance and self importance rooted in the soil of our profound confussion.
The confussion would be not knowing good from evil when we see it. It's a serious problem that we have.

Oh my gosh I missed your post (even though it was even in duplicate) Gee I'm so sorry.
My answer was The CONCEPT of GOOD is the Root of All
Broadly expressed as:
GOOD......GOD The notional ultimate good
)
EVIL........DEVIL The notional ultimate evil
Well what better way to end this Thread than with your post jag!. Thank you for your careful and thoughtful occasional inputs.jag: The root of all evil is GOOD.
If god, from which all goodness flows, is an all loving father, then evil must be that which becomes hungry and thirsty for something else.
"not as I will, but as thou wilt"
jag
So what can we say? The concept of Good is not all it is cracked-up to be!!!!!!!
And thank you to everyone else who joined in on the search for the Root of all Evil.- it was fun and I think we all got to know each other much better too.
Honestly this thread has been a highlight in my life
With love from Tina
