    Limited resources.

One sells more than his fair share and then uses the money to increase
    (yet further) -
    - his unfair share.

    The basis to capitalism.

    One man One vote
    - a democracy.

However the landscape is defined by money -
    - governments courting money for the wealth of their own (and not all) nations.

One's vote will have no effect on the policies which we'll be governed under -
    - the policies are delivered by
    (currently)
    corporate concerns.

    ~*~

Consider every limiting resource on the planet -
divide by ca. 10 billion -
allocate one of these units to each human being in the World -

    - now compare the allocation with the actual usage by our people -
-the greatest divergence between one's fair and actual share will be seen in those with most money.

    Sure
    - we've all a vote -
    and are superficially equal -

    - the policies though (of competing politicians) are biased towards those which court those with greatest divergence (selfish personal wealth) -
    - and so with each passing day inequality's throes.

Your point is well stated and understood, Mikal.

From my own perspective, I would have said the same, not long ago.

Today, I can honestly say that I do not know myself.

Since transitioning to night shift, and researching the effects on myself and colleagues, I have witnessed some interesting changes, in myself and others. I would tentatively hypothesize that one experiences the "other half" of their personality, and not all of it is negative.

My day personality is very decisive, positive and practical. Labelwench is more spontaneous, questioning and emotional. This was troubling to me at first, but I am becoming more comfortable with these new (to me) facets of self and feel that my two sides are finally getting together, combining into an entirely new sense of self. From your postings, you will know exactly what I am attempting to say, while still in night shift mode.

So while "I know myself" today, I sincerely do not feel that I know the person I am becoming, but I think I like her better...

Thank you for the comment that triggered this introspection.

    Regards,

    Labelwench

Introspection is "self-examination"...it is the opposite of self-interest. When you can measure your own thoughts before you act on them...you know yourself. When you can place another person's needs above your own and measure what your actions might do to them, you know yourself. When you can stamp out 'selfishness' you are crushing 'self-interest' and have discovered an Individualized center of self. When you can measure your words and decide they will cut through to someone else like a knife....you know yourself!!!!

Thousands of years of human history featuring money as the infrastructure of human society -
only to realise that the competitive element which current financial systems require
    (winner and loser)

    - can be lost for a better system (collaborative) -
    - in which we all win.

We're running out of stuff -
    - it's about time we realise how much of the stuff we covet is counter-community-productive.

    WRONG AGAIN, ARTHUR.

This is the 9th notice of my posts on where morals/laws/values came from. It was not the Roman Catholic Church.

    great point.

    {self-interest,first person perspective} ->evolves to-> {self-examination,selves-interest,third person perspective}

Through the eyes of animal -> evolves to -> the metalevel perspective -
    - where one finds oneself
(just as I appear to be doing now) -
watching one's physical body (typing fingers)
from the eeiry perspective of observer.

It's possible that the chief architects of the Roman Catholic Church recognized the difficulty in explaining God -

God can only be understood through 'learning' -
where general educational levels were (up until recently)
    not
    permitting

    - and so set themselves up as a force for repression against which people would rebel -
    - would rebel against (eventually) through disbelief
    - through disbelief in the Roman Catholic's description of
    in contrast to their own
