    Re: LHC (Large Hadron Collider)

Thanks Max....not so much worried about myself..but I sure do look at my grandchildren and hope so much they are not gyped out of their futures because science gets a tad out of scope at times.....

    Re: LHC (Large Hadron Collider)

This is good science. They're not going to be destroying the world with it.

You'd need a MUCH more powerful event, by several orders of magnitude.

Current estimates are that cosmic rays hitting the atmosphere are more energetic than the LHC.

You would probably have to get up around the energy level of two cosmic rays colliding head on, or higher, to really endanger life as we know it.

    Re: LHC (Large Hadron Collider)

I've got a little idea of whats going on.

Again to reinforce the safety, at any time there could be a cosmic ray striking the atmosphere directly above you, with SIGNIFICANTLY more energy than the LHC can put out, and you've yet to hear about a black hole raining down from an upper atmosphere cosmic ray strike... so it's safe to say the LHC won't be producing one either.

    Re: LHC (Large Hadron Collider)

    hi all

The event referred to as happening in space all the time and this CERN thing is the same so no worry does not hold water.

The event in space is one akin to the Aurora Borealis effect where two particle mass in transient state are passing close to each other in opposite direction and gives the view of a collision but in proving fact they join in a dance of spin nature then to perpendicular repel with vortical effect and this duo vortical effect (one up and one down) from the event of the dance is what is looked at as a black hole being created, perspectively a paradoxical effect in the way one is able to determine the after effect ... it does not feed from the back drag coming in from the spins so is not an extended event.

The smashing will not cerate this effect other then by the ones which miss being smashed to become perpendicular vortical event and these ones can be fed ... by the particles being smashed to a grouping and tending to keep feeding as it grows in mass grouping not self destruct.

I do not want to be asleep as it may in fact happen as it will give me great pleasure to know the one closest to it were the ones first pulled in ...

they have indeed gotten one stream on line ...

if it does not? give it time ... they will figure it out I am sure lol g.

    Re: LHC (Large Hadron Collider)

I'm not much for doomsday and neither are the kids. The kids are enthralled by science and things like this just pop up. We watched the next big bang on the science channel as well as one on time that was really neat and connected to lhc. I looked things up on the official site and looks good... I think on the time show it said they would have to build an even larger collider, in space, to recreate an effect like the 1st natural one.

The kids aren't as concerned as they are curious and the more info they have the more at ease they are. My son knows a lot about creatures of the ocean. It didn't stop him from snorkeling until he saw a something(undecided, possibly a sand shark) with numerous sharp teeth looking at him. Now we hear of those nasty snake fish invading the rivers here , yet he still swims in the rivers. Last year he wrote a book called ~ Scaredy Matt
and his many adventures. End of days or not we are a pretty joyful family.

I wonder who is responsible for concurring ignorance/fear ...

the smart man will say "you are" "go to school"...

.... and the dumb man will say "you are" "teach me"....

comes back to empathy with the human condition which goes to the TOE ...

I think it was in the USC LA where the last final question on medical discipline studies was something like "if you knew a baby to be born would be deaf, with a deformed body, autistic ... on an on the description .. would you consider abortion? ... for those that said yes he wrote on the paper "you have just killed Bach"

Ethics, Shalin north of the yellow river ... "one does what has to be done but not for self."

    Re: LHC (Large Hadron Collider)

Interesting observations. Would the collapse of our earth be able to create a blackhole? I doubt. Then why are we worrying about LHC? It has much lesser energy and mass...

I don't think they'll be able to produce a black hole at those energy levels either, but since I disagree with Hawking about black holes radiating, it would be a little worrying if it could.

If Hawking is right, a microscopic black hole would only be detected as a unique sort of particle spray in the detectors, left after it evaporated.

If he isn't right, it wouldn't sit there eating the planet, it would probably fall towards the center of the gravity well, until it became heavy enough to be influenced by the sun.

Nasty, but not end of the world stuff, though I'd hate to get in it's way.

I would really want to experiment with such black holes and see how we can increase the event horizon of such black holes and personally go and see what the inside of a black hole looks like...
