there is time , and time is based on the interactions and/or actions of matter its self and space is a simultaneous manifestation with the manifestation of matter its self. both space and matter inotherwords go hand in hand.
now space-time is an altogether different thing.
this would assume that both space and time have an actual fabric associated with themselves independently. they don't.
this the example I like to give
we can see a star from behind the Sun not because of the warpage of space-time but because of optics. because of the Suns atmosphere.
futher for instance if I were to raise the north pole of the Earth to the north pole of the Sun , the bending of the light from a star behind the Sun would come straight at the north pole of the Earth . but the light from a star , behind the Sun , would still be bent towards the south pole of the Earth. now if I raise the north pole of the Earth so that the south pole was parallel to the north pole of the Sun , the light from the star behind the Sun would now be parallel to the south pole . meanwhile the light from the star behind the Sun would not be bent at all , the light would come straight at the north pole of the Earth.
so when Rutherford showed that Einstein was right , the eclipse proof , what they didn't consider was the affect of the Suns atmosphere , optics , on the stars light its self.
space-time is simply the mis-interpretation of what is actually happening
