whats the chances of gravity being the singularity.
just before the big bang there was only gravity in a super compressed state but some thing caused it to expand , and the big bang acured, which with all that force created matter.

" The Singularity " is the philosopher's stone that all physicists are looking for. It's that One force that would reconcile the 4 known forces of the universe which includes gravity. That is what gives gravity "gravity" Nothing? Something?

If gravity is a function of mass, how can it exist before the big bang?

Hello swoarg,
Your idea that gravity in a super compressed state expands gives gravity a repulsive force. And force cant create matter only energy can. Force is just the transfer of mass or energy.

It cannot exist before the big bang. Gravity as force can oonly exist if there are two things attracting each other only one thing cannot have gravity.
So, swoarg I believe that rules out the possibility of gravity as singularity.

Re: a question - 04-08-2008, 04:24 PM

i am just curious to read how others might view gravity.
i lack knowledge but have a good imagination
i see gravity as being the main structure of the universe,
without it would there be a universe,

I see gravity as being a reaction of the expansion of the spatial dimensions of the Universe.

Imagination is what is needed here more than technical knowledge. Yes without gravity there would be no universe but one can't say gravity IS the fundamental. Because there would be no universe in the absence of the other three fundamental forces as well.

Just think about this, ours may not be the only universe, there may be lot of universes. Even our universe may be like our planet around the sun, it may be hanging on to something far greater than our universe. Its always good to imagine. If you can create it in your mind you can certainly recreate it on paper!

thanks Mohan your comment helps me a great deal.
like i say i have little knowledge but its not by choice
as i have a learning disability (aspergers) so learning from reading at the moment for me is not easy. the good side of my aspy is that i have an amazing imagination and vision.
