Dan Millman had a unique outlook on human energy and its connection to numbers showing up in the lifepath.

Dan described (1) energy as the energy of creative expression or the spark of life expressing through the dynamic force of life energy, sexual energy, creative energy and the energy of personal magnetism.

He viewed (1) energy as a double-edged sword...energy capable of constructive and destructive expression. He states that people who work (1) energy are either highly creative or negatively self-destructive. He noted that these are the lives where frustrated energy gets discharged indirectly into addiction and addictive preoccupations because (1) energy is amplified energy which must be released so these lives face issues in their lives with the realm of energy and strong tendencies they have to block, withhold or discharge energy negatively.

Dan described (2) energy as holding the essence of cooperation and finding a balance in life between giving and receiving. He viewed (@) energy as two people in a boat and they have a choice to row against each other or row together in the same direction. He conveyed the thought that working (2) energy which is support energy behind the drive to serve, help, instruct, guide, assist and support so challenges in life are met in the realm of responsibility versus excessive responsibility. Working this energy out is to discover the difference between codependency and the art of diplomacy. It is in other words rewarding to hold up the world of others but only with a clear sense of personal boundaries where support of self is in equal measure to the support of others....

Dan described (3) energy as the energy of a powerful expressive drive intended to be pushed out by a profound inner state of emotional sensitivity. He viewed this energy as a person who needs to realize their energy difference and walk in their life to the beat of a different drummer. In a sense this would be a strong sense of exclusivity from the existing societal mind-set. This is energy that is highly interactive and social in nature, different from human communication because it is expressive or tone, the ability to express from a state of emotional inner integrity or honesty where expressive tone reaches others emotionally and moves them. People working (3) energy positively are profound orators and working the energy negatively are whiners, complainers, gossipers and if seriously negative can move into states defined as manic-depressives.

Dan described (4) energy as foundational energy or energy which is creative, cooperational and expressive in nature. It is energy which must be grounded to attain absolute internal security consciousness.
Dan viewed this energy as the same process of building a house or a house under construction whereby a process of steps is followed to build the structure. The goal with this energy is to develop clear intention and focused effort in mastering process. Those working (4) energy positively are the best analysts and negatively are vacillators in action and opinions. Life tests those working (4) with situations which speak to stability.


Dan viewed (5) energy as physical, emotional, mental, sexual and spiritual in nature expressed socially.
He viewed (5) energy as a bird free in flight but needing the discipline to land and go through the arduous task of building a nest in order to experience its life to the fullest extent.
Those working (5) energy face tests between freedom and discipline, dependence and independence.
Those working (5) energy positively are the best explorers and adventurers and negatively they are easily influenced, manipulated and controlled by others.

He viewed (6) energy as the scales of justice perfectly balanced between fairness and high ideals.
Those working (6) energy are dreamers, visionaries, writers who inspire and singers who express hope for a better world.
People working (6) energy are tested in the arena of idealism, perfectionism and struggling with disappointment in self, others and the world.
Those who work (6) energy positively are those exemplifying a good sense of judgement.
Those working the energy negatively are the best perfectionists.

He viewed this energy as a flower blooming in a dark cave without light to open and reveal its inner beauty.
Those working (7) energy meet issues in the realm of trust and openness. They are people who search for private space, places of isolation and have troubles establishing boundaries as they hide feelings of fear to be shamed, hurt, betrayed and misunderstood.
Those working (7) energy positively are the best scholars seeking insight.
Those working the energy negatively are isolationists and suffer from paranoid feelings.

In 1985 spiritual revolutionary, writer and author Dan Millman met the wise and learned Pythagorean thinker...Michael Bookbinder. From that meeting and a transfer of fundamental spiritual thought..Millman went on to create The Life Purpose System eventually authoring it as the book, "The Life You Were Born to Live."
Years later this book kind of fell off the shelf and into my hands...when books do that, I usually pay attention. I glanced it quickly and decided the thought system deserved some examination. For two years I ruiminated with this book, dismantling the thought..studying it like it was a fine classic. I did allow my mind to embrace horizons of thought which would seem impossible but were actually quite tempting to sense as quite possible.
Millman plays with numbers...created 37 life paths and birth numbers for the twentieth century...allowing for change in these in the paths and numbers with every century. The Universe watches us...what a fantastic thought..we are on a journey...purposive driven..

Through your day, month and year of birth...one becomes on a path for their journey. Every lifepath has its own applied Laws...so you may not be under the same laws as me for example...hence the particular complexity of my life as compared to the particular complexity of your life...Incredible thought here.

I took my lifepath, studied it in companion with the said Laws which affect me...I had to consider..Dan Millman does not know me...how does he therefore know, what I struggle with privately, what my challenges are..etc..
Most pertinent I discovered that 4 being the predominant number in my path when worked through for a lifetime reveals a person who Negatively would be the best vacillator and positively would be the best analyst...wonders and wonders..my greatest preoccupations..I am an analyst... a researcher..

Questions and wonderings....who else has run across Dan Millmans system of thought? Who would like to know more? Any thoughts out there???

Dear Mikal.

I think the purpose of life is most simply to live.
And for most of us, man has made a whole bunch of numbers of that.
I'm not a fan numbers, but I am of life.

MJ...as ever thank you for your viewpoint. I suppose you could look at this thread as the examination of a spiritual book which puts forth some thought provoking speculations about life on the part of Millman who seemingly realized life is strangely pitted by diverse challenges and seems to hold a precarious nature about it which can upset a person's balance with their life in the blink of an eye.

Dan Millman viewed ( energy as the subconscious drive for achievement and accomplishment, energy needing to be pushed out into life by an inner sense of abundant self-worth, self-respect and strength of ability or personal power.
Dan viewed this energy as "The Horn of Plenty" inner qualities and virtues which enrich a life.
People working ( energy meet issues in life in the realm of money, power struggles, control issues, authority issues and issues of recognition or being known in the world or even in one's neighborhood.
They are driven to contain within themselves the qualities of the issues they face and are challenged by in life.

People who work ( energy positively are philanthropists.
People who work ( energy negatively are the best passive-aggressives so can fall into self-deceit and self-deception.
