    precision does it

Precision, precision, and precision, that is precisely the way for approaching the TOE. But what is exactly the meaning of the word ‘precision’? Precision could not possibly has anything to do with being right or wrong? Or could there be such ideas as to say a theory is precisely right or precisely wrong? As a theory of gravity, Einstein’s general relativity is more precise than Newton’s. As a theory of electron, Schrödinger’s wave mechanics is more precise than Bohr’s while Dirac’s is even more precise than Schrödinger’s. However, quantum mechanics is precision in the small while general relativity is precision in the large. Nevertheless, what is precision in the large and in the small? One requires a microscopic view while the other a telescopic view depending which ends of the instrument is looking into.

Smile cut the dross precisely here!

You made some valid points there Antonio, exacting leading to the point, precisely, like an arrow motioning along a path,if we follow it, we may find enlightenment? To zero in on a hunch, gut feeling, cutting away the dross, as we home in on precisions path,we approach closer to our goal,to find that reality, that truth that will indeed set us free?

    kind regards michael.

    linguistic precision

i also would like to discuss linguistic precision if such is relevant to a TOE see an example from the internet at http://www.bu.edu/wcp/Papers/TKno/TKnoWalc.htm and also measurement precision at http://www.engr.mun.ca/~cdaley/1000/measurem.htm and thinking precision at http://www.habits-of-mind.net/precision.htm and many more...

Good question, what does precision mean?

I am finding that the legal interpretation of mathematics can be less precise, therefore keeping things in a mathematical symbol domain tends to be more precise than an english worded statement.

So if a statement maps to multiple meanings, that seems to be less precise than a statement which maps to a single meaning.

An object dropped from a height above the earth will increase in velocity as it falls to the surface.
These are the words of observation and interpretation.

An object dropped from a height above the earth will fall at a rate of 32 ft/sec/sec.
This is the precision of mathematics and measurement. Accuracy of the measurement determines the precision of the numbers.
Probability and uncertainty determines the level of accuracy.

I like how Antonio has introduced himself to my Three Cosms description of Reality. They are, the atomic (or nano-scale), the macro (where we find ourselves), and the colossal. It really does matter what end of the scope we are looking through. In my opinion, Volume is the most important quantity, because I am certain that it was the root of the ingenious visualization of his reality that inspired Einstein to describe relativity in the first place.

Precision, a very absolute word. If we say a mathematical interpretaion or measurement is precise, that means it's satisfactory to our understanding or believe. It comforts us, If we say something is very precise. Also, it makes experimental observations look intelligible.

    Best regards
