Keep it as simple as you can...so that a child could even understand it!

I have my theory - and it explains (to me anyway) every crappy thing humans have done in all of known human history!

So...WHAT IS THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL?
Double Standard or Doublethink

Well I have to guess what these terms mean: inconsistancy and thought manipulation???

Whatever - they are symptoms and not causes.

Dear Tina,

Your guess on Double Standard and Doublethink is correct.
Some people beautify and strengthen their evil actions after hypnotized themselves with double standard and double think.

Anyhow, I'll try one more time: Selfish.

Best Regards. Bottomlander

Yes we can allways find justification for our every action - if we want to!
Selfish is a symptom and not a cause.

Hi Tina;

First you have to define what evil is.

Before we ate of the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil, there was no evil, no good either, just life.

According to Rousseau it was knowledge that corrupted.

And so my guess is KNOWLEDGE.

Best to all,

Pat

************************************************** ****************
When we consider "evil" subjectively it is arbitrary - our "evil" varies from person to person - I can name an "evil" that you would call "good". Some subjective evil has majority consensis - but it still is subjective and not even necessarily an evil.

But "evil: objectively is anything that defaces life.
It is only the human who can deface life - all other things are life that can be only what it is according to nature.

You say "evil" arose in the context of Tree of Knowledge good and bad - but you must realize that the act eating the fruit in the first place was "evil" evidenced by the disregard for natural law (GOD in this case).

So what was at the root of this decision to go against the law.
Knowledge of Good and Bad is a symptom of evil not a cause.

GREED.
There are 2 sides to the force. One is for the being and is continue. The thought for this force is
“To continue and to let others continue as you do.”

The other side of the force is for all the material things and the one God, this is gravity. The thought for this force is,
“To bring all things together onto thyself. “

When a being get too attached to the material side, they begin to respond to gravity.
When a being responds to gravity it is called greed. This is one road where you can not win, as there is only room for the One God you will be absorbed as nothing of value.
John.

Ummm I need some background knowledge to fully understand the theoretical ideas you express here BUT... if you are right you have to identify the "root cause" of wanting to attach to the material side. Otherwise this is to me a symptom.

The root cause of evil is the will.

Humans as creatures lacking instinct as primary motivator it would be difficult if not impossible for us to function without "will" per se. How about an adjective to describe the type of will you're thinking of.
