Clean living way to beat cancer
A healthy diet can help
Over 40% of breast and bowel cancer cases in rich countries are preventable through diet, physical activity and weight control alone, experts say.
Simple measures like cycling to work and swapping fatty foods for fruit can make all the difference for these and many other cancers, they say.
Globally, each year there are millions of these preventable cancer cases, the World Cancer Research Fund estimates.
Its report makes recommendations for "clean living" policies. After not smoking, it is clear that diet, physical activity and weight are the most important things people can do to reduce their cancer risk
Professor Mike Richards
National Clinical Director for Cancer
According to the report, about a third of the 12 most common cancers in high-income countries and about a quarter in lower income countries could be prevented through diet, exercise and weight control. This include cancers of the throat, lung and bowel.
The truth of everything is less than one inch,it is only equal and the lion is one.One is free when the door is opened, education has the key.=
Hello MJA,
" After not smoking, it is clear that diet, physical activity and weight are the most important things people can do to reduce their cancer risk."
You'll get no argument from me, that such lifestyle changes are where we should be putting most of our emphasis.
CBC Television last night featured a brief comparison of four different weight-loss diets and found that they all worked, as long as there was a controlled portion size.

For those fortunate to reside in a location where you can walk or bike to the market each morning and buy your daily food freshly harvested and displayed, most of the world can only wish they were in your shoes.
Most persons of this continent make their selections from within the walls of a grocery conglomerate. That is the reality of where we find ourselves today.
IMHO, a more constructive discussion would be on how we can begin to move toward healthier food selections through the power of our personal choices as consumers.

Just reporting my surround...
animals demonstrate heroism, empathy, affection even for a different species.
Animals, including the animals we eat, are 'persons'
much more complex than people really know or have taken the time to observe and empath with.
One thing you would agree with i think, is that they are acutely aware ..maybe not aware of their awareness..
when distress or pain is inflicted and do have an interest in their own self-preservation.
So if humans are 'aware of our awareness' and also capable of empathy, isn't it incumbent upon us,
if we have special gifts, to evolve past our conditioning and traditions,
to seriously question exploiting and taking the life of an animal when it is not necessary?
Are we superior to animal?
Every excuse i ever hear for using and consuming animals seems to lack this core thing called empathy
and completely smacks of no regard for the animal.
This reply is more like the Melanie whose postings I have been following around the forums.
Animals are, indeed beings, and the First Nations and Innuvialuit people harvest them with the greatest of respect. All of the creatures and plant life on this planet, including the micro-organisms that sustain the whole framewark, are worthy of much better treatment than we have shown in the past.
Now the followng question is not meant to provoke discourse.
Help me, and others understand, how we can build a framework that would allow the many species that are presently being managed as a food source, to regain their niche in the world.
Thank you for your thoughts on this,
