Austin slides into the room, swimming in technicolor. The eyes of his fellows focus on him, and recall how they wondered when and how he would enter.

"Fashionably late of course my friends". Eyes lead, feet follow, hands craft, lips wave, ears crash, and minds meld.

I like saturdays and the rocket summer
blue skies and the morning's air
I like you, you like me
there's something wrong with this picture
let's turn it upside down so we can see
the insecurities caused by the last four years of economic downsizing in the eastern us
I like february along with tilly and the wall
pretty pictures and shirts that are too small
for my child-like figure that you're so in love with
I like the autumn's leaves and bright eyes
eternal sunshine of the spotless mind
stands strong in my favorites of all time
along with you and your technicolor eyes

you say johnny cash is your favorite singer
but you've never heard folsom prison blues
how do you expect me to believe you
I was never much on country songs but
someone should really tell you to come home
    'cause it's getting (awfully) late
    and your dinner's getting cold

I like simple songs with pretty words
I tried poetry, but it's just no good
the pages get lost, besides I'd much rather sing to you
I love living life with you by my side
you're a smart kid with a beautiful smile
and oh god those technicolor eyes

I like saturdays and the rocket summer
night skies and that lovely stare
I like you, you like me
so lets lock all the doors
there's nothing outside we need to see
    'cause we've got love
yeah we've got a tv we can watch "Friends" all we want
and we can laugh at how i laugh like Ross when i get nervous
and we don't have to worry about tomorrow
because we know it's gonna come

whether we want it to or not

Re: Pub songs: Now Playing: (_________)

As the music ends, the lights flicker briefly.

Robert glances up, rather expecting to see.....but no....he senses that the mysterious woman shall not manifest this night. He need not prepare her a beverage.

Austin looks up from his light show, and then, as if following a request, selects and plays two songs.

Meem, notices the responses of both Robert and Austin. He hears a woman's chortle. None but himself hears it.....Though there is no open window or door, a fresh breeze dances by, and brushes him lightly on the cheek.....as a song begins to play in Spanish.....

"Music transcends all languages", her voice is quite distinct, inside his mind.

"And since you mentioned Johnny Cash", the voice continued, "a little something extra Follows...."

Jose Feliciano on the Johnny Cash Show from 1970. Jose & Johnny sing "I Guess Things Happen That Way". Then Jose plays "Earl's Breakdown". Finally Jose sings "The Windmills of Your Mind".

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxR5z...eature=related

    The Windmills of your mind

    Round,
Like a circle in a spiral
Like a wheel within a wheel
    Never ending or beginning
    On an ever-spinning reel
Like a snowball down a mountain
    Or a carnival balloon
    Like a carousel that's turning
    Running rings around the moon
Like a clock whose hands are sweeping
Past the minutes on its face
And the world is like an apple
    Spinning silently in space
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind
Like a tunnel that you follow
To a tunnel of its own
Down a hollow to a cavern
Where the sun has never shone
Like a door that keeps revolving
    In a half-forgotten dream
Like the ripples from a pebble
    Someone tosses in a stream
Like a clock whose hands are sweeping
Past the minutes on its face
And the world is like an apple
    Spinning silently in space
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind
Keys that jingle in your pocket
Words that jangle in your head
Why did summer go so quickly?
Was it something that I said?
    Lovers walk along a shore
And leave their footprints in the sand
Was the sound of distant drumming
Just the fingers of your hand?
    Pictures hanging in a hallway
Or the fragment of a song
    Half-remembered names and faces
but to whom do they belong?
When you knew that it was over
    Were you suddenly aware
That the autumn leaves were turning
To the colour of her hair?
Like a circle in a spiral
Like a wheel within a wheel
    Never ending or beginning
    On an ever-spinning reel
    As the images unwind
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind
So many paths to the same destination,
would, but I could, experience them all...

An old memory begins to sing,

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kc0xQ...eature=related

    A new memory replies

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bp0Fl4LIgDI

Oh, oh, oh brother totem pole
I saw your legends lined up
And I never felt more natural
    Apart, I just came apart

    Please, please, please sister Socrates
You always answer with a question
Show some kindness to a petty thief
    Forgive, you did forgive

Watch the migrants smoke in the old orange grove
And the red rocket blaze over Cape Canaveral
You’ve been a father to me
    In 1960’s speak
In the comatose joy that we’re on TV
While the mountain’s side was shining
    Wild colors of my destiny

I watched your face age backwards
    Changing shape in my memory
    You told me victory’s sweet
Even deep in the cheap seats

    Hey, hey, hey mother interstate
Can you deliver me from evil
Make me honest make me wedding cake
    Atone, I will atone

    Wait, wait, wait mighty outer-space
    All that flying saucer terror
    Made me lazy drinking lemonade
A waste, it just went to waste

Like the Freon cold out the hotel door
Or the white rocket fade over Cape Canaveral
You’ve been a daughter to me
    Your buried shoe-box grief
I felt your poltergeist love like savannah heat
    While the waterfall was pouring
    Crazy symbols of my destiny

I watched your face die backwards
    Little baby in my memory
    You told me victory's sweet
Even deep in the cheap seats

    And you don’t judge me
    That’s not your style
But I won’t see you for a little while
    And there’s no worries
    Whose got time
All these changes are going to fill your mind

Like the citrus glow off the old orange grove
Or the red rocket blaze over Cape Canaveral
It’s been a nightmare to me
    Some 1980’s grief
    Gives me parachute dreams
    Like old war movies
    While the universe was drawn
    Perfect circles form infinity

I watched the stars get smaller
    Tiny diamonds in my memory
I know that victory is sweet
Even deep in the cheap seats
It's not about understanding... it's about *not* giving up!
    What Dreams May Come.

    Bird on a wire

Like a bird on the wire,
like a drunk in a midnight choir
I have tried in my way to be free.
Like a worm on a hook,
like a knight from some old fashioned book
I have saved all my ribbons for thee.
If I, if I have been unkind,
I hope that you can just let it go by.
If I, if I have been untrue
I hope you know it was never to you.
    Like a baby, stillborn,
like a beast with his horn
I have torn everyone who reached out for me.
But I swear by this song
and by all that I have done wrong
I will make it all up to thee.
I saw a beggar leaning on his wooden crutch,
he said to me, "You must not ask for so much."
And a pretty woman leaning in her darkened door,
she cried to me, "Hey, why not ask for more?"

Oh like a bird on the wire,
like a drunk in a midnight choir
I have tried in my way to be free.
