Re: Pub songs: Now Playing: (_________)

You've likely had some experience playing the fiddle as well and I'm not going to assume my skills are particularly adept, but at a minimum the practice session is enjoyable (Hangover incoming in 5, 4, 3, ... LOL)

Sounds like you had a good evening and a bit of entertaining break from the workweek. I remember that song you posted about graduating from this and that and then entering such and such in order to later work doing odds and ends, that progress into ... etc.

Now here's an interesting thought I had last night - fundamentally it would seem the most logical thing the universe could be doing would be counting (and counting itself is already insanity beyond magic! Since when does the number 1 actually mean 2 ... or 3 or any other "random" number? People are talking crazy and should stop this counting non-sense! )

But if it's counting (not necessarily the only possibility, but for a united singular deterministic structure to exist with self-determined growth, counting seems to be the only natural option), then what/how is it counting and toward what - or what could it be accumulating other than (at least relative to self-determinable properties) unknowns?

If that fundamental volume is increasing and represented as diverse properties of experience, then it would seem there should be some manner of evaluating this and finding a growth beyond the simple fact that "time passes" and this growth could be reflected in many ways.

I'd say the most important way such a growth should exist as something persistent over time would be relative to ones values ... are things getting better or worse. I gave that example of the magnetic balls ... imagine how one might organize a growing set into an increasing number of dimensions. At times, the length in some dimensions could decrease, but overall, lengths in all dimensions would increase over time, though potentially quite erratically along individual dimensions.

... still working on ideas, but it's quite an interesting picture with lots of complex twists and turns, but wouldn't it be interesting if there was a way to not only do this:

... but to also do that in an ideal manner that retains all values in a purely increasing manner over time?

If it's not a precise/logical transformation, then something's lost along the way and that causes problems. An element of creativity is involved as well (nothing specific predetermines the direction of growth - "direction" is multidimensional and depends upon properties in inherent within the structure - such as ones particularly vantage point from within it). It's also not specifically 3 dimensional ... adding a single unit to an infinite set (and from a finite perspective we could equate infinity with growth) provides an infinite possible of selections as to the relation of that element within the set (once again, from a finite perspective that equates with an infinite/growing (though infinitesimal relative to the entire structure) number of possible influences/choices - of potentially increasing effectivety relative to individual values ... can we get that simulataneous as well? ... yes another interesting question - if it's all a predetermined selection, then what timeline are we on?).

My main comment here is simply that from one perspective, it's infinite/growing in one aspect alone. For other (higher dimensional) perspectives, it can be a chaotically varying set of properties in potentially unlimited numbers of dimensions and associated individual values.

There could be a way of counting (in manners closely related to areas of science/logic/mathematics) that helps clarify the correlations between these and properties of experience (perceptions, emotions, knowledge, etc.) as well as ways to see free will as existing in terms of influences distributed across time in influence - consciousness could be seen similar to the interface between these and where the 'degrees of freedom' are ... though it could be informationally impossible to precisely track the 'leading edge' of that ... on the other hand, the fact that there's an ability to conceive of and extrapolate upon such a state/property/growth etc. would at least seem to provide evidence that 'something's there' ... though specifically where that is, isn't really definable ... could be anywhere - a non-Newtonian discrete/quantum discontinuity.

Sometimes properties can repeat, but taken within different contexts, that can still be 'forward' motion

Well, it looks like the dimension of how much free time I have available to continue chatting in the pub has just collapsed (for now ) and I've got to start getting ready for work.

Catch you up the trail a piece

How about a lively tune to start off the summer vacation (for some) with? The playing skills are good, though I'd place my bets on whoever made the song selection to have a slight advantage for the performance

    Steve.......

.......were you over-doing the coffee earlier today?

Your mind is pacing like a tiger in a cage, lol....

If the universe is busy counting, it's going to be busy for a while, I'm thinking, between creation and attrition.

Here's a number I stumbled upon to occupy you while I catch a few hours before tonight. I gather that the lads have been disagreeable between themselves, and it remains to be seen if any of their trouble spills over onto my shift.

For their sake, I hope not. I have no time for such drama.

Re: Pub songs: Now Playing: (_________)

I hopped on to post some more music by the group - Above & Beyond, and enjoyed seeing a few presents left on the thread. Yes, I hope noone gets your feathers ruffled too much (though a little teased feather now and then isn't entirely annoying )

Oh, regarding coffee, I've been ODing on it for more than two decades! It's too late already LOL (I get more sick from eating health food than junk stuff now )

Hmmm ... after the slower selections (and lovely video), I'm not certain this change of beat is too sudden, but as the storyline above emphasized, a dash of cold water isn't always unenjoyable, after one gets ones bearings, and I think that 'the enemy' referenced in the following could be simply ignorance and the irrational (the irrational could still be considered logical, but constrained to a smaller less precise form - what's appears irrational to one might appear completely rational to another) - but with feet planted firmly on "Terra Firma" the view isn't bad (though what that is could be viewed in different ways as well and there's a lot of logic behind things that could be considered common sense and intuition ... pushing the envelope on those requires a bit of exploration, with potential pitfalls)

Anyway, I've had some trance/techno music running here and it makes for a great background to concentrate on work ... just let them run while doing something else around home/work ... speaking of which, I should take my own advice and get back to earning my keep

    Catcha later ...

And if anyone managed to survive that sweep, here's yet another one for the road, of course listening is optional ... I'm just having fun slipping in listening and posts from work. The music ends early, around 4:43 (the length says over 6 minutes, but they're being tricky again! What a tease )

Almost the weekend, yeah, though I've been enjoying some things at work (stayed late last night and didn't even notice the time - don't mind that at all). I'll put up a couple more songs with a bit more classic feel.

This one is hauntingly beautiful ...

Here's a song I've enjoyed listening to before, though a bit different version of it:

Hmmmm......trance music would be suitable for some things, yet the percussion seems very similar between songs. Interesting, but I wouldn't want it to be my sole option for eternity, lol....

I appreciate the diversity of selections that you come up with, even after we have been working this thread for some time now. Always something new, or a wonderful new take on an old favorite.

Just a quick pick at present as I am running late after a friend returned to the Yukon having been gone for several months and her vehicle stored with us. Lots of catching up to do.

Hoping you will enjoy this little number.....

Yes, I can imagine more than a couple workdays in a row of techno/trance music would need AT LEAST a 15 minute intermission (I'm teasing, it was only about a day and a half worth )

That Maire Brennen (and her sisters) sing some great songs. I thought the rhythm and harmony in that Ce Leis piece was particularly well done.

BTW, I played that piece you posted by Jethro Tull - Winter Solstace to my father and he loved the unique style of it also.

Since you mentioned, the change in pace, here was something I was listening to today at work. It's 10 minutes long and there's no need to listen to all of it, unless you feel in the mood for something quiet and relaxing. I just wanted to give a sample of what was playing on my 'work radio' today.

... and I came across this again as well again. It's a pleasure finding ones with persistent value:

That Chinese flute selection was excellent for just waking up and catching up on my e-mail and correspondence, and ABBA is excellent as ever.

I came across this treatment of that song by a choir and I thought it was most eloquent in the manner in which the melody and harmonics builds toward the end.

Pretty certain that you won't be offended listening to the same song back to back......

I'm off to see my mother in the morning after shift. She has been complaining of feeling very fatigued of late, and so that is of concern to me, though there is little that any of us can do in regards to the passage of time. We generally have very interesting chats and share a repast together. The horses get some extra hay this night to tide them over as I'm often 2-3 hours later getting home. I usually get a chorus of welcome when I do get back........as though I would forget to feed the spoiled creatures, lol..... Not too spoiled, at least, as I prefer to keep them fit and not fat, as overweight causes health problems in equines as it does in humans.
