    A Personal Metaphor Speech.

I don't know why, but it was on my mind, and it lead me to a "new" question. In a speech class I had last semester, our first speech was to select an object that would best represent you. I chose a pen, this is part of the explanation I planned for my speech. A speech never goes quite as planned, for many anyway, for I sometimes tend to ramble on.

So, what would I be? Has to be something tangible and not too complicated but what? What would best accommodate what I perceive my life being like, or even possibly any-one's life. So my object has to offer some sort of freedom as to what it can do. All of us in this classroom are people, though we are all different in shape, color, and some other less than obvious reasons.

Then the body of my object should reflect this somehow, allowing for many similarities but yet different. When I came to this point it didn't take long for me to decide what my object was. I am a pen.

If I am just a pen, who is the writer? In a taste bit of irony, if one were to assemble that same class, before I could tell you a persons name or age, I would be able to tell you what they chose to be, and some of the meaning of why they said they chose it, but forget something as simple as a name, but recall something as complex as a face, and it's meaning.

If you were an inanimate object, what would you be, and why?

    What an interesting question!

I would choose to be a single drop of rain, uniquely individual, yet able to transform through the states of gas, liquid and solid, and through the actions of hydrogen bonding, able to experience the collective.

An infinite shapeshifter, sustainer of life, renewable energy, is water.

Scorpio being a water sign, a raindrop seems most fitting.

Water (H2O, HOH) is the most abundant molecule on Earth's surface, constituting about 75% of the Earth's surface. In nature it exists in liquid, solid, and gaseous states. It is in dynamic equilibrium between the liquid and gas states at standard temperature and pressure. At room temperature, it is a nearly colorless with a hint of blue, tasteless, and odorless liquid. Many substances dissolve in water and it is commonly referred to as the universal solvent.

    Highwayman

I was a highwayman. Along the coach roads I did ride
With sword and pistol by my side
Many a young maid lost her baubles to my trade
Many a soldier shed his lifeblood on my blade
The bastards hung me in the spring of twenty-five
    But I am still alive.

I was a sailor. I was born upon the tide
And with the sea I did abide.
I sailed a schooner round the Horn to Mexico
I went aloft and furled the mainsail in a blow
And when the yards broke off they said that I got killed
    But I am living still.

I was a dam builder across the river deep and wide
Where steel and water did collide
A place called Boulder on the wild Colorado
I slipped and fell into the wet concrete below
They buried me in that great tomb that knows no sound
But I am still around..I'll always be around..and around and around and
    around and around

I fly a starship across the Universe divide
And when I reach the other side
I'll find a place to rest my spirit if I can
Perhaps I may become a highwayman again
Or I may simply be a single drop of rain
    But I will remain
And I'll be back again, and again and again and again and again..

It's one of my favorites, LW… and of course the studio version sounds way better than the live.
