I hope to add a progress photo each week. But what it is I cannot tell.

    Your guess.

    Enjoy

What kind of wood are you working with, Greg, and what compound are you using to laminate the layers together?

Fun to watch things being built!

Some serious clamps you've got there. Could certainly be used as defensive weaponry, lol....

The wood is 'Amoora', a hardwood. And also it is on the endangered list ... but I love it, and so ........ ... I use it. But I waste nothing.

    CLICK

The project will probably take me a year. Its for a competition which I won last year, and now have to defend my title .... lolol.

I don't use glue, I use 2 part marine epoxy which takes 24 hrs to reach full strength, gets over everything, difficult to remove from where you don't want it to be, a terrible gloop. But despite all these drawbacks the joint ends up being stronger than the timber itself.

    Re: A mystery in Amoora

By your use of two part marine epoxy, I would suspect an outdoor application, unless you are merely prone to 'overkill' in your construction. Wood is a living medium (yes, even after being cut and seasoned) and the diligent application of time, energy and skill makes every piece of hand made furniture an object of living memory and a creation to cherish.

    • Amoora is suitable for high quality furniture and cabinet work. In its 'finished' state, boards cut on the full quarter and highly polished, bear a striking resemblance to African sapele
(Entandophragma cylindricum), with its dark red colouring and
attractive ribbon grain figure. It is also suitable for joinery,
including window frames, door jambs, decorative (V.J) wall linings, mouldings, turning and outdoor (oil treated) screens; and makes an attractive flooring for light traffic.

    Other names:
    Trade Name: Pacific maple
    Local Name: ulukwalo
So many paths to the same destination,
would, but I could, experience them all...
