Does anyone else feel like "humanity" is walking a razor edge, smoking, joking, and laughing along the way?

There is an interesting aspect of our species, that when we do not comprehend circumstances, we fall back on a variety of testing behaviors, which may at times be deemed inappropriate for the time and place, by most standards. Take 'gallows humor' as one example. We tend to make jokes about death, when we have to confront it regularly, as a cryptic affirmation that death has not yet claimed US, though we know it must in the end.
It is exactly because we are sentient enough to be aware that there are limits to what people and the planet will be capable of accomplishing, that we are whistling in the dark and walking in the park.
When you don't know what to do, one of the strategies is to be aware and be prepared to move in any direction.
Yet, one is not going to advertise this idea for the reason that if everyone else does likewise, that strategy may become less effective.
The majority of people have no idea how thin the line is between all systems functioning as normal, and a major disruption. There are several such disruptions happening on any given day, but most local media does not report the 'bigger picture' as I became quite aware on one trip to another nation. I will say that Canada reports a considerable amount of world news and deploys reporters to all points of the globe where there is natural disaster, political unrest and even war.
No matter what challenges we are facing, there really is no other option than to make your best effort everyday, as we are all in this together, for better or worse.

33 miners trapped underground since August 5th are all still alive, 17 days later.
It may take up to four months to free them, however......

The experiencing of 'time' for these individuals will not be on a scale that most people will ever comprehend, IMO.

(My father worked underground in a gold mine in Wells, B.C. I have other friends who work in this field and mining is also one of the Yukon's mainstay industries, although more of our mines are open pit than underground, and few are active presently. There is considerable exploration underway at present however. LW )
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/38807555...news-americas/The miners' survival after 17 days is very unusual, but since they've made it this far, they should emerge physically fine, said Davitt McAteer, who was assistant secretary for mine safety and health at the U.S. Labor Department under President Bill Clinton.
"The health risks in a copper and gold mine are pretty small if you have air, food and water," McAteer said.
Mine officials and relatives of the workers were determined not to give up hope that the men were safe below where the tunnel collapsed Aug. 5 at the mine, about 530 miles north of Santiago, the capital.
Rescuers had drilled repeatedly in an effort to reach the shelter, but failed seven times. They blamed the errors on the mining company's maps. According to Gomez's note, at least some of those earlier probes were close enough that the trapped miners heard them. The eighth attempt finally worked.
Gomez wrote that the miners used vehicles for light and a backhoe to dig a channel to retrieve underground water. And while his message focused on faith and love for his family, his frustration also showed through. He wrote that "this company has got to modernize."

This year has seen the largest return of Sockeye Salmon to the West Coast of B.C. since 1913.
While this has been good news for the most part, it is not without significant controversy regarding whom has been given access to the fishing, and for what intervals. Though there are still plenty of fish to potentially harvest, the market is now saturated and the capacity to process the bounty has been hampered by the closure of canneries during the years of decline.
Additionally, the return of other spawning species is predicating an early closure to prevent accidental capture of some of the more threatened populations of fish, citing a need to preserve diversity of species for optimum marine health.

POLAR ERUPTION: This morning, Sept. 19th around 0200 UT,
magnetic fields around the sun's north pole became unstable and erupted.
NASA's SOlar Dynamics Observatory recorded the action:

I'm sure there are other things that become effected.MIT neuroscientists have now shown they can influence those judgments by interfering with activity in a specific brain region — a finding that helps reveal how the brain constructs morality.
Previous studies have shown that a brain region known as the right temporo-parietal junction (TPJ) is highly active when we think about other people’s intentions, thoughts and beliefs. In the new study, the researchers disrupted activity in the right TPJ by inducing a current in the brain using a magnetic field applied to the scalp. They found that the subjects’ ability to make moral judgments that require an understanding of other people’s intentions — for example, a failed murder attempt — was impaired.
I actually felt better today, than I did the day before.
