A Taste of Thailand (Photo Intensive)

    My Story .......

My name is Mane ...... I am 60 perhaps more .... I live in a small fishing village on the island of Koh Chang. (the island of Elephants) I have lived here all my life.

I have no water nor basic services .... let me show you my beautiful home. Greg says that he could live here forever. It may not look much to you but it is as much as you have because it is full of serenity and contentment. The monsoons bring tidal floods from the ocean and landslides from the mountainous jungle behind. But I have lived thru it all. Tho at times I have gone without and endured, my bounty in the main has been plentiful and I would not ask for change.

    My Village

    My House

My Kitchen ... I cook over a charcoal pot in the centre, and boil water on a propane bottle.

    My Bedroom ........

My Lounge room or 'Hall' .... I love and adore my King, and worship Budda.

I will unpack and show you the great Treasures that I have collected in my life ... much as you have jewellery ....

    A Scallop Shell beside Greg's boot ...

    Conch Shells

Greg says I am beautiful and possess an unassailable inner personal dignity. I call it stoicism. Sing no sad songs for me .. I hope you may attain all in your life as I have in mine.

    Mane

Hi, Greg. I assume you posted images as well, but for some reason they aren't visible on my browser. (My wife's parents were from Thailand and Cambodia)

Re: A Taste of Thailand (Photo Intensive)

In a small street of the Main Sukhumvet thoroughfare in the expat section of Bangkok I came across the following hotel.

    I found it interesting.

    The Entrance

    The main Foyer

    The Guests writing room

The Guests reading rooms and Library

    Lounges and sitting rooms

The numerous and slightly rabid rules

The Jazz band that once played here .....

The label in the bottom right hand corner of the above photo ...

    The Restaurant dining room ..

Hope you enjoyed ....... There are very very mixed reviews regarding this hotel in google .... lol

    Photos of food???

I went to a wedding on the weekend. The groom, his best man (both 6'4" tall) and three groomsmen walked from the Marriott to the church in the heart of the city, wearing kilts. They were chased by a group of Japanese tourists taking photos...it's just dawned on me, I THINK YOU MIGHT BE TURNING JAPANESE?

    Thanks for the pics, Greg.

You have to be sure of your man
.. ere you stir up that nestful of Hornets
the little brown men of Japan

This is what is known in Bangkok as a 'Ghost Building' ...

As a result of the economic crash in Asia in the late 90's ... the money for construction ran out .... a huge number of projects were abandoned and the owners were submerged in bankruptcy etc. As a consequence these buildings dot the landscape skyline of Bangkok.

This one has actually, thru decay and neglect started to lean as it sinks on one side ...... no one accepts responsibility .... and there are thousands of lower buildings within its reach should it topple including the indispensable Skytrain.

Occupied by down and outs ... The common saying here is that the down and outs have the best penthouse views in Bangkok .... rotflmao.

This is a physical reminder of what recession means.
