Well Chazzysaw, I'm glad you're so inspired by all this you see here. And yes, the TOE represents a kind of quest, while thoughts concerned can be expressed here and discussed. But still, I hope you already found that a large part of the subscribers think TOE has to do with integrating the four forces gravity, electromagnetical, and the strong and weak nucleair forces. Also there's talk of the GUT - General Unified Theory - that also has to do with evolution, biology. And to me, I favour the interpretation closing in on the concept 'Logos' by Heraclit. So there's lot's to it. And music, why music? Well: variation on a theme, generating complexity, harmonies, world? Also there's the possibillity music, and art in general, touches more the upper domains TOE dwelles in then all the science taken together ! (Hunch, hunch.)
Harmonygirl,
You speak of 'pitch'. But well, while doing so you enter I think the world of the measurable, the world of science. I wonder if anyone knows of research that touches this... impression, of different pitches, in what is out there.

Check out Reaktor. Tonality is irrelevant now that we can manipulate tone in all its manifestations... sorta akin to the Newtonian way of looking at the world. Computers make it possible to do whatever form we can concieve of... the only limitations are the interfaces we use to constrain ourselves. Given that computing power increases exponentially pretty soon we will be able to do whatever we want and controlling tone again will require a new way of looking at the world, and most likely, the displacing of music by new forms of communicating human experience. I feel the same is true for science. There will be no TOE until we tame the instruments we are developing, like Reaktor, and we come to a consensus that explains reality in ways that are fundamentally different from any we understand now. Just my two cents.

Thanks for your two cents worth Blakelight, what you have said,is both worrying and hopeful? worrying as in manipulating sound as a weapon?(military use)and hopeful as sound can be used in the healing process.

That's what humans do. We discover something and then we try to find a way to manipulate it. Whether we manipulated it in a positive way or negative a way, a way will be found. To manipulate sound and tones can be taken a step further because when we are talking about tones we are talking vibrations. I believe vibrations hold the key to TOE . Everything from the sun to the moon, earth, you, me, the trees everything has a tone. Some we can hear some we can't.

In my younger days,I often heard reference to "the music ofthe spheres"this
has always interested me,for it would fire my imagination as to what would
this music sould like!Would it be etherial and promote a blissful inner
contentment!

Hi Harmonygirl.
Music is logic, and the music of everything, is the logic of everything;the Equator of All in all. This "Equator" is the "String of Everything."
when harped, like electricity turned on,it wakes up domant rhymes,
patterns and rhythms in everything.Because the Cosmos Itself ,is infinite
tunes of this Singularity Logic of All of Space-Time:Nuclear Logic.
Stay glorious,

I have recently started researching and looking into several TOE theories, but after reading this thread, it has all fallen together. The harmony of everything aligns us in a way so that we really can see all solutions. But this harmony moves so far out of just created music, it is in the accidently everyday music of walking on a sidewalk, sweeping the floor, banging pots and pans, it all spreads, and leads to a distinct harmony that can't be seen quite as easily. Music passes so much farther than conciousness ever can. In the search for the Holy Grail, it is the journey, not the prize, that is most important.

I think you are on to something here fair qwen, music makes the world go round, maybe
even the universe?

Fair-gwen,
Last night I saw and heard on tv Mahler played by the Concertgebouw-orchestra with the conductor Bernard Haitink. It was magic.
And why?
It seems we humans are able to invent, express and recognise-experience certain harmonies, a cascade of wonderful sounds, that also bare deep emotions, that tell you the spirit of a time, the lifes of millions of people, and that is able to - above all that - touch on eternal values, toch on the essence of being.
We also know that there's a lot of technique under or beneath or behind these wondersounds. But going into that - wood, brass, the score, the notes, the acoustics, consonants, dissonants, etcetera - immediately the magic is broken.
For instance a sunset has sometimes the same kind of wonder. But scientists can tell you all about the breaking and dispersing of the light, the effect of certain molecules in the air, how this light gets into your eyes, how our brain constructs an image, and so on. But when listening to that, the magic fades away.
The reality itself has it's wonder, even in everydaylife. Science is finding out how it's constructed. Layers upon layers of complexity, built on underlying 'alphabets'/'themes', and laws and constants. And to me built on finally a very essential order or theme I call aos.
Understanding it's explanation needs a lot of delving into the underlying technique, the words with wich I try to make it plausible. And it also needs I think a sensitivity for reality as being a kind of music, sense the broader patterns, sense the bigger picture.
But yes, also to me the essence of life is something hard to touch on, getting into the field of wonder, getting into the unspeakable, unreasonable, no words.

You are all right here. Music is a manifestation of the harmony of Universe and TOE would be the formula of this harmony. I know it sounds rather mechanical, but professional musicians like Chazzysaw know how much mechanical work and knowledge of scales, chords, etc. must be put into performance of one piece so it would air a feeling. I refer you all to the issue of Scientific American Magazine of August of 2005. Its cover story is titled "Is The Universe Out Of Tune?" which talks about study of Cosmic Background Radiation - which is considered as the evidence of the Big Bang - using COBE satellite as the tool and knowledge of harmonics - musical wave vibrations - as theoretical background. I understand this work was awarded with Nobel Prize in Physics in 2006. It's so scientific and so poetic!
