Re: Science as a Team Work

I'll just extend the above argument of Gods Existance to show how it can be developed:

    Three Potentialities: God Exists

    1) The bible says God exists
    2) The bible does not say God exists
    3) The Bible neither says God exists nor does it say God does not exist.

Upon examining these three statements clearly the true one is (1) The bible says God exists. Yes that is a provable fact but still does not prove God.

    1) The Bible is all true
    2) The Bible all false
    3) The Bible is neither all true and it is neither all false.

I'd choose (3) in that the bible contains some truths and some falsities - but what are they?

Hope you don't mind me introducing religion argument but it is good for demonstration!

1a) How likely is it that something is true?

Evolution is likely, due to the evidence.

Realism would be likely, were it not for the brain's easy creation of a near perfect virtual reality during night dreams.

Astrology is unlikely, due to a lack of evidence, but some gravitational tugs may do something minimal to us rather than what astrology says.

Miracles are not likely since they involve nebulous claims of improved hearing and such, but an obvious thing like an arm growing back.

God-as-a-person may not be likely in that many divine relevations contradict each other; humans wrote the revelations; everything seems to operate without him, although he could exist outside of the universe and not be interceding, or be a god-that's-not-a-person—just a basis, like energy.

Semetimes we can still make a good guestimate.

As for extraordinary claims, they require extraordinary evidence to acheive likelihood.

We can say that we can't prove things either way, but in our lives we go further and have to live one way or another. Example: not living based on astrology; living as if all were not a dream; not going to church.

That living is called belief! I think we can admit we have beliefs as long as we do not regard them as statements of ABSOLUTE FACT.

I "believe" in protheory (see my last two posts above) show a method to determine the status of "truth". But I could be wrong but it seems to work.
