in hope...arthur
As implied the TOE is supposed to be the Theory of Everything which further implies it can unify and explain everything....but the TOE well might be nothing more than "Everything is a Theory".

I subscribe to a TOE devised by Simon/PROTHEORY

According to Protheory everything can be described, answered or explained in terms of a dynamic between positive, negative and neutral potentials.

I agree on the part that everything is a theory...

[Is there someone who would explain in simple lay language what exactly is expected from the understanding of, if there is one, a t.o.e.]

Hi Tina,
Thank you for your reply. The real reason for the question was really an attempt to elicit a meaning of how people view the idea that there might
be just one rule or law which determines how, why, where and what absolutely every thing is and does, a law which everything must abide by to be what it is.

Of course, if there were such a law, we must also abide by it which implies that, in relationship to our self, we must understand it even though we
don't have the literary where-with-all to define it.

A thing from my Father , "If one really understands an explanation of some thing one should be able to explain it to 'anyone' who is interested so
that they would understand, so keep it simple"

So Tina, I was just hoping that people who write and talk about a T.O.E. might be willing if they are able to offer me an explanation.

arthur.

arthur.
That is almost like a fairly open-minded objective Peer Review with reasoning, steps, details and citation sources open to interested researchers and readers.
(Not subjective tricks!)

Keep it simple but not hiding the weakness or avoid to deal with those adverses and extremes.
That is why TOE should be more open than any partial theories.

Best Regards. Bottomlander

Hi Bottomlander
With, genuinely, no intention of being provocative, although I suspect that you mght possibly consider it so, I studied your response to 'A thing from my father' and I am afraid that I don't really understand it, (perhaps I am thick).

You high-lighted the words 'Peer Review', but what is it? could it be a group of deluded like minded people assessing the merit of something? You didn't high-light 'objective' but how objective can a Peer be, for if they found no merit in the something they would cease to be a peer. You mentioned various other thing including 'sources'. I don’t think that anyone would expect one to produce the sources of an original idea. And finally to, (Not subjective tricks!) what does this mean? Here I will add a little story from my Universal Law.

'A philosopher was standing in the path of a boy, "Excuse me" said the boy "You talk to me boy"? Questioned the philosopher, "What evidence have you that I exist"? The boy who 'thought ' he was wearing steel toe capped working boots went up to the philosopher and kicked him hard on the shin and walked on. Glancing back he saw all of the hopping philosophers philosophies wafting into the ether.'

So Bottomlander, at the bottom line, you like me are just a human-being and as my father said 'if you understand', although I am thick, 'you should be able to explain it so that I would understand'

My regards, arthur.

Dear arthur,

Many dictionaries (online or those in your house), wikipedia.com, google, etc. will serve you much much better and more objectively than any single replier can do.

Sorry that I am unable to assume that up/down to what explanations/details will let the statement
'you should be able to explain it so that I would understand' not to be repeated.

Best Regards. Bottomlander

Hi Arthur;

The T.O.E. is not the philosopher's stone, rather it is the attempt to unify all interactions of nature.

So far they have come close to this, in that they have unified 3 of the 4 known forces into a G.U.T. ( Grand Unifying Theory ), called the Electronuclear Force. This brings together the Electromagnetic Force, the Strong Nuclear Force and the Weak Nuclear Force together at the earliest stages of the formation of our universe, when everything was extremely hot.

The one force they have not been able to unify with G.U.T. is Gravity. This would bring about the reconciliation of quantum mechanics with relativety.

About 1/3 of the worlds Gross Domestic Product is because of our present day understanding of how nuclear particles behave as described by QM.

And so the search continues to try to articulate Gravity with the other 3 Forces.

Best to you and your quest,

Pat

The simplest, easiest explanation of TOE is TOE: = .

Understand?!
