Hi Michael...I find it remarkable that the "awakening to knowing" is the result of passing through much agony and internal despair...I hear you loud and clear...been there done that!!!!...smiles...I think that process of agony and internal despair is the slow death of that part of our nature called our "selfish nature..." would that give you insight into that suffering????

Our selfish nature needs to be fully accepted and understood, how we do this seems to
be as the result of numerous painful experiences, insight comes when we "see and cognise
the connecting issues of our actions and thought processes, and become willing to stop being so selfish, and start being more thoughtful and selfless.I personally do not like the
word change,Use stop and start instead.

One late summer I watched a hungry caterpillar ripping away at a stalk of dill. I usually leave such creatures in my garden. All the thing cared about was devouring whatever it saw. It seemed, from my human point of view, that the little worm was very selfish indeed.

A few days later I found that the creature had woven itself a crysallis which was very lovely. It looked like a living opal. Whatever was inside was at rest. No decernable motion. Its resting I thought, considering the damage it has done to my dill and wondering how it might make restitution.

As luck would have it, I happened to be in the garden when the creature was making its way out of the opal in which it had been sleeping. It emerged from the crysallis in the late morning sun. It was pollinating my beans just an hour after its arrival.

Sometimes change is a perfectly good word to use. I have seen some people that did not just start and stop. They became different in every way. They changed. Does that make sense?

Yes indeed Wick, what you posted made much sense, thankyou,we each have our own
idiosyncrasy, mine is prefering stop and start to change, although change seems appropriate when a caterpillar becomes a beautiful butterfly.
