An Exceptionally Simple Theory of Everything - 11-06-2007, 08:28 PM

See http://arxiv.org/abs/0711.0770.

Ok, so I'm linking to this since I like the pun in the title. However, it's definitely a theory up there with string theory and LQG

Damn, I can't edit the title!!

Here is a link to an audio seminar that the author of this paper gave today. I've not listened yet, but there is a link to the .mp3 file along with a link to .pdf slides

Garrett Lisi's theory appeared on the New Scientist website today. There's a few interesting quotes on here. Lisi apparently quit academia after his PhD because of the pressure on him to step into line and work on string theory: "I've never been much of a follower, so I walked off to search for my own theory".

Lee Smolin says this about the work "It is one of the most compelling unification models I've seen in many, many years."

Dr. Lisi's work was slashdotted today, http://science.slashdot.org/comments.../11/15/2322225 with a fair amount of discussion trying to understand his position. Dr. Lisi also commented. Some good links are available.

It's amazing how much notice people are taking of this. I'm not sure whether it's because the theory doesn't really need that much mathematics to read it, or whether the paper has been written well for the media, but every printer I walk past I see copies lying on it, and on people's desks. I'll try and keep upto date on this, and post any news that I hear!

A purely geometric approach seems much in line with my transdimensional wave propagation ideas i.e an electron positron pair being the result of just one ring singularity to hypertoroid wavicle integrated into the surface wave-front of our universe as n-dimensional tori constitite sub groups of E8. However I've gone many stages beyond ie, have found a viable mechanism for wavicle perpetuation using relativiso-geometric dulalities that arise from endo event horizon condensation.

Well enough of my 'arm waving'

I read through Lisi's exceptionally simple TOE a couple of times. Unfortunately, I never studied Lie groups or Lie algebra. Nevertheless, I think with a few months of dedicated study, one could understand the basics of Lisi's theory. His paper is very heavy on geometry and graphical representations. It actually could pass for 'art' to someone unfamiliar with math or physics, even some pages are suitable for framing.

At any rate, the validity or non-validity of Lisi's theory is in large part waiting on the Large Hadron Collider to get up and running, as the AESTOE relies heavily on the Higgs field and predicts new 'colored' Higgs particles, which could be found in LHC experiments.

In the meantime, I'm gonna learn group theory just in case, and besides it's more challenging than sudoku...
