    Propagation Through Vacuum/empty space

    Hi all,
    I have a question which is boggling me since long time. As we all know, that light is an electromagnetic wave which can travel through vacuum.

    I wanted to know if there is any specific material in vacuum which allows the electromagnetic energy to pass through it? I'l be happy to listen from you

    Welcome myphysics to the toequest forum,I send you greetings from old blighty (England)many hold that there is a medium within the vacuum, that being the aether or
    ether, which acts as a conductor for this magnetic exchange to occur.

    regards michael.

    Hi micheal,
    Thanks for the instant reply. Even I had heard about ether as an elastic meduim which helps the electromagnetic energy to pass through it. I'm confused when Relativity says that, there is no ether as such or if I'm wrong please correct me. I know that it looks like a simple question but i'm consfused.

    regards,

    Dear myphysics and Michael (good to see you back):

    Please consult the following (remarkable, entertaining and educational) URL and see what you think.

    My crank conjecture is that photons are integrated wavicles in the minor axis brane component of an electro-positrionic wavicle (trans-dimensional ring singularity to hypertoroid cycle) ..... this inner wave-front circumnavigates from the brane wave-front of our universe around into the future back to the positron beyond the light cone many billions of light years away ..... it may intercept and integrate into another EP wavicle on transit as our brane itself moves though this arc (absorption). It's just geometry!

    Hi Fivedoughnut,
    Thanks for responding to my query. Could you please ellaborate on The Brane universes. I would be happy you suggests some websites which would give the information.

    Hi Myphysics;

    I copied this from Wikipedia which may help your inquiry.

    A perfect vacuum with a gaseous pressure of absolute zero is a philosophical concept that is never observed in practice, partly because quantum theory predicts that no volume of space can be perfectly empty in this way. Physicists often use the term "vacuum" slightly differently. They discuss ideal test results that would occur in a perfect vacuum, which they simply call "vacuum" or "free space" in this context, and use the term partial vacuum to refer to the imperfect vacua realized in practice.

    Best to you and all,

    Pat
