Mind and Matter- Discovering A Vedic TOE

Mind and Universe— Discovering a Vedic TOE

The ‘matter universe’ is certain yet the ‘mind universe’ is not, so said indirectly Heisenberg when he
formulated the ‘principle of uncertainty’. A particle in space has, undoubtedly, a very certain position and a very certain velocity at any given point in time but the experimental or theoretical science is not qualified to ascertain both of those at the same moment. The uncertainty principle snatches the reality away from mind still keeps it intact for the universe, rather calls for more sophistication of knowledge to discover it. The challenge lies in knowing the truth without disturbing the reality.
Theoretical science is a game of perfecting intuitive assumptions those can withstand inquiry and examination and then pass the empirical test. Newton, first only, assumed while thinking of gravity that there exists an attractive force in this universe and then went on to develop a law and empirical equation to establish a relationship among the obvious partners contributing to that force. He could very well start in a different way (without causing any change in the present law of gravitation) assuming that there is a mysterious destructive force of repulsion in this universe which tends to tear it apart and to counterbalance that force or as a reaction to that force (by incorporating his third law of motion) there comes a force of attraction, the gravitational force. Nothing would have changed except giving room for entry of an element of mysticism (which is still there) and accepting tacitly the divine intervention in the universal plan. He did a right thing by taking a more scientific route and leaving the cause of gravity for scientific inquiry. Gravity is the best example of a scientific still intuitive assumption at work in the universe we know as of today; the force having a reason for existence without any cause of origin. Gravity is no way a less essential truth than the principal of uncertainty that came as a wall between the mind and the matter.
The truth, regarding the constituent elements of the universe and their relationships, remains unaffected in spite of an accepted blockade of uncertainty. In fact, the mind of the observer and the experimental test of the observation once regarded as the tenets of scientific knowledge with the emergence of uncertainty looked like the biggest impediments in the way of knowing the truth. The two of the break through achievements of theoretical physics, the Uncertainty Principle and the Theory of Relativity, not only hinted but established the end of the road for theoretical physics. If not really an end, it was a beginning of a maze. The scientific community for reasons of not accepting a dead-end evaded the obvious. Einstein had known this as was evident form his frustration with quantum mechanics.
It is now written on the wall that unification is almost impossible with an observer (mind) as a referee or a mere link between the ultimate truth and the observed one.
With its intervention, observer becomes an integral part of the inquiry and thus of the truth. That is what in short the two great principles of uncertainty and the relativity mean. That is also the reason that the mystical force of gravity where the observing mind has no relevance shows no sign of having any relationship with the rest of the forces. The Mest theory of everything also reaffirms the road block at the observer’s end therefore eliminates him by the continuity of Mest.
The truth of the certainty of material universe and the uncertainty of the universe of mind was much better known to Vedic philosophers of ancient India. The four schools of philosophy- Nyaya,Vaishesik, Sankhya and Yoga, known as Darshanas(philosophies) dealt extensively with the question of origin and existence of this universe. The methodicity was not empirical and results not experimental, but it will not be right to say that the approach was not scientific, if uncertainty; relativity and gravity are to be taken as yardstick of being scientific. I have no qualms in accepting that for the religious, cultural and historic reasons so much of crap of thoughts and interpretations has crept into those books of knowledge that it is imperative to separate chaff from the grains. Basically, the exponents of these schools of thoughts and their genuine interpreters, time and again, challenged the undisputable authority of religion. Threatened with the emerging dominance of science, the believers of Creationism distorted these divinely beautiful thoughts beyond their recognition. Science like what happened in the West was once again the victim of religious bigotry.
For the scientists consuming gigabytes of bandwidth in search of unification and for the enthusiasts in quest of TOE standing at the threshold for a new door to open, I believe, these philosophies will be of immense interest.
I make no claim to having mastered this hidden knowledge but, of late, for some valid reasons my casual interest in those scriptures has turned into a case of serious study.
Patanjalyogpradeep is the ultimate treatise on the subject popularly known as Yoga. Contrary to general perception, Yoga is lot more than the postures ( asanas) and breathing exercises (pranayam)
Yogashchitvrittinirodh: - Yoga, in simple words, is way of controlling the mind from getting carried away. Yoga is to know the truth by realization and in that way it is different from rest of the three darshanas as a quest of the ultimate. I am neither interested nor intend to give people a gyan on Yoga . I will therefore keep my limited knowledge purposefully confined to the scientific aspects, apt and relevant to the Unification physics.
Thousands of years before Heisenberg put forth to the world his principle of uncertainty, the ancient India philosophy had known a sutra(formula) that said: Ek Samaye Chobhayanavadharnam .( sutra/20- Kaivalayapad, the chapter IV of Patanjalyogpradeep)
‘At any given moment both, Chitt (mind) and vissaya(matter) are not determinable.’
It is the mind that knows the matter and it is the mind again that knows that it knows the matter. Knowing two truths at one moment is not possible. The second knowledge of truth will in that case either be affected by the first one or will distort the first. Apart from the mind of the observer and the matter, we need a detached observer to know the truth.
    Chittantardrishye buddhibudhhertiprasang: smritisankarshcha ! Sutra/21/ibid.
If one mind observes the other mind that knows the matter, the knowledge is faulted (hybrid) due to overlapping of memory.
    Chitterpratesankramayastadakarapattau svabudhisanvedanam ! sutra/22/ibid.
Chiti (the Conscious self) one that is not affected by action and result and is detached from the event can see with his intellect the truth coming from the reflection of the mind that knows the matter. This is what I have referred above as the intuitive assumption that led Newton to gravity, Heisenberg to uncertainty and Einstein to relativity.
    Parinamaiktvadvastuttavam ! sutra/14/ibid
As the result is one, object and the subject also become one. The universe we see thus becomes a continuous succession of events. The matter/energy and the spacetime then become a continuous Mest.
    Vastusamye chittbhedattyorvibhakt: pantha: ! sutra/15/ibid.
The matter remains same but by differentiation of mind it seems different. The objective reality though seemingly changes with the intervention of the observer (mind), in truth, remains unchanged. The relativistic universe though a reality from the observer’s perspective can never be an ultimate truth. The matter is unaffected of mind.
What is going to be the universe in absence of the intelligent life? Or what it was like before the birth of intelligent beings?
There was of course a universe before the origin of life. Was it a silent universe as there were no ears to hear its sounds? Or was it a noisy universe but there were no ears to hear its sounds?
It is a very interesting question but to avoid the digression I leave it to be discussed in a separate post.
There is a universe in absence of mind.
Na chaikchittatantram vastu tadpramankam tada kim syat! sutra/16/ ibid.
If the matter or object under observation is not dependent on mind for its existence
then what will happen to it as it has once passed the mind or has happened. Will it be destroyed by the passage of time?
    Kritartham prati nashtampyanasstam tadanyasadharantvat! sutra/22/sadhanpad/ibid.
It is over and finished in relation to the mind concerned but has become part of the Absolute, indestructible. It is still there and will remain always from the perspective of the Conscious Self, the detached observer.
Idanimiv sarvatra natyantoched:! Sankhya sutra 1/159.
The matter as it is undestroyed now will remain so always. This is law of conservation. Nothing is lost in this universe as I have said in the Mest Toe.
The shruti says ( shrutis and smritis can be misleading) .
    Puranasya puranmadaya puranmevavshishyate !
If we deduct absolute from the absolute, the remainder is still absolute.
