Singularity As Separate Entity

Introduction

This chapter outlines the main framework of a model for TOE Called Universal Theory. It utilizes astrophysics, quantum mechanics and mind behavior to offer a model for theory of everything. You may find the whole paper on the website at www.universaltheory.org.

This is a work in progress. Your input to address the flaws is very much needed. We are currently writing the lagrange formula for the concepts presented. In that, we need a mathematician who is familiar with theoretical physics to assist us in establishing the mathematical base for them. Please send me an email or leave your input in message board.

"We must try to understand the beginning of the universe on the basis of science. It may be a task beyond our power, but we should at least make the attempt”. (Reference 6- p79)

So far, the efforts of the scientific community have been confined to reveal the secrets of our material world; we have progressed so far. At the dawn of the 21st century, every day a new and amazing discovery is brought forward. Each discovery though, presents to us even more puzzles and questions. In physics, the dilemma between General relativity and quantum mechanics has attracted much of the effort and research of physicists throughout the world. Through their endless efforts, the picture of our world, as we can see it, is becoming more and more understandable and interesting. In this spirit, I would like to submit the following concepts for scientists to review and examine. If it is proved to be, based on sound principles, it can shed light onto many unsolved dilemmas, which are facing us today. And if it does not, still we can take it as food for thought.

Revisiting Singularity

The idea of introducing a fabric for wholeness of the world is nothing new. The scientific findings provide numerous evidences, which support common sense, and every day experience that the world is an interconnected and closed system. Other attempts have been tried which was not completely successful and could not get popularity. Even David Bohm tried to present his Implicate Order as a model, but unfortunately, he could not finish his Unbroken Wholeness Theory before he died.

This is another attempt to present a model for the wholeness of the world.

Singularity was brought to our attention after Albert Einstein presented his Einstein Field Equation on November 18th 1915. Einstein himself was trying to deny it, for the rest of his life. In 1939, he tried to show that “ Schwarchild singularities do not exist in physical reality”. (Reference 4-p 9)

Since then in physics, singularity has been labeled as a ‘Catastrophe’, ‘problematic’, ‘non-real’, and ‘non -physical’. However singularity clearly present itself in every physical or astro-physical theory, as well as quantum mechanics, and all mathematical equations relating to these theories.

As, mentioned above, several attempts where made to bypass singularities such as Super Symmetry, Super Gravity, Super String theories. They were primarily, developed to remove singularities and infinities from matter fields.

Physicists have been trying to ignore it for almost a century;

“We knew that there were significant aspects that we would need to work out before we could establish that our second half of the story did not introduce any singularities- that is pernicious and physically unacceptable consequences”. (Reference 1- page 327)

But others such as John Earman see it otherwise:

“(This book is) written in the faith that, if adequately revealed, the problem of space-time singularities will not remain the orphan of the philosophy of science and that if adopted as a rightful child, it will enrich not only the philosophy of space and time, but other members of the family as well“. (Reference 4-p.227)

To present an alternative view for singularity, I would like to refer to Einstein’s remarks as the gateway for new definition:

“If we imagine the gravitational field… to be removed, there does not remain a space of type (1) {Minkowski space-time}, but absolutely nothing, and also no ‘topological space. ……There is no such thing as space without field. Space- time does not claim an existence of its own, but only as a structural quality of the field. (Einstein 1961)

John Earman argues that “Einstein is surely right that, whatever the technical details of the definition of space- time singularities, it should follow that physical laws, in so far as they presuppose space and time, are violated or, perhaps more accurately, do not make sense at singularities. This is a good reason for holding that singularities are not part of space time.” (Reference 4-p.19)

According to the above, we should forget about space-time as an adjective for singularity,rather we have to consider singularity as separate entity. From here on in, I also intend to refer to it, as a singular noun, not plural.

If we suppose that singularity is not part of space-time, we expose ourselves to a new definition for reality. Let us imagine a singularity as a separate entity out of our space-time universe.

Mathematical discontinuity represents holes in the fields. Dividing a real number by zero creates discontinuity in math domain. This same problem renders itself in General theory of relativity. This gives the astronomers the sense that there should be holes in space-time.

I certainly do not intend to offer you a series of assumptions with no objectivity and practical proof. Underneath, I will introduce logical basis for above definition for singularity.

At first glance, one can ask, if our physical knowledge is derived from laws of space-time, how can we define and explain an entity which is out of this physical universe? With this belief, singularity looks abstract. But we are also facing quantum behavior, which is far from understanding of our physical knowledge. Mind behavior also cannot be explained with our physical understanding. Underneath I will try to show that space-time universe, Quantum world and mind are the tripod of reality. In order to achieve deeper understanding of reality, studying of the above topics are the main challenges, which are put forward for human race in twenty-one century and beyond.

Reality Tripod

I am trying to show that; the above topics (even with our present knowledge) are joined and united in the proposed singularity.

When we talk about singularity, one may ask, anything out of boundaries of our universe is so remote that it cannot have anything to do with our lives or our universe. Why should we bother spending time on it at all?

At least in one theory (Loop Quantum Theory) the boundaries of universe is believed to exists in every miniscule of space. The theory states that space is not a continuum; rather it has a fabric-like texture. According to above we are exposed to out of space in every miniscule of space-time. Also in this paper, I hope, I can show that the singularity is involved in every basic activity in space-time.

Another reason that physics avoid the concept of a being out of the space-time universe is because it is considered incomprehensible and out of reach. I believe if we look closer, we come to realize that some characteristics of singularity are within our grasp. To further define singularity, let us discuss the different properties, which we can or cannot relate to it. Specifically I am going to mention five characteristics that we can attribute to singularity.

Smile Dimensional transfer conduit/=Singularity?

I read your article with immence interest,so much so it prompted me to write this reply.I have for quite awhile now thought that the singularity was in effect
a portal to another dimension,your article has convinced me that this indeed,could be the case,a place where finally all motion would cease,Quote.

the infinite point of the singularity,is in effect a doorway into another level of
existance of which at present we can know nothing of.I might just add,that in
the last analysis all is contained within the mind,and the answer to the final
question lies in expanding your consciousness you meet that premise.

Smile Super compressed thought maybe a Singularity.

What lies beyond the event horizon of a black hole,and what are the real differences in whether it is spinning,a rotating black hole,or if it is just there,stationary so to speak?When you come to the infinite point which seems
to be the singularity,what happens then.does matter then phase out of existance,and return once more into a more liquid like thought form.which then flows through a dimensional doorway,and then becomes re-assembled in the
form maybe of anti-matter,which by its very anti-nature will be very different
and behave supposedly in the opposite way of matter here in this universe.
Maybe when the point of the singularity is reached,thereis a moment of absolute
stillness,no motion at all,then when this pause has reached its climax,it then is reborn into another dimension.the black hole in fact could be acting as some
form of a super Lensing effect with the singularity being the main focus of this
lensing effect,and acting as the agent of Transfer.Whether the effects are different from a rotating black,or a stationary black hole,remain to be seen.If that were ever to be possible of Course!

kind regards,michael.

Re: Singularity As Separate Entity

Dear Michael;

Thanks for the comments. I do fill that objective reality still is a portion of reality and we can not leave everything to mind. The concept of complex numbers imply that the reality is composed of real number field and imaginary number field. You can look at complex numbers in http://www.universaltheory.org/parti...20function.htm
Meantime I am reading your spacecluster model with interest.

Re: Singularity As Separate Entity

Mohsen
Your article is engrossing.Its singularly commendable.
Though ,not a scientist, I have been working on the subject
on my own for decades and have different opinion.
I think since the time we invented singularity our thinking was clouded and we ignored the reality of small scale infinity or quantum infinity which existed right under our nose. In the 'mest' theory [mest is an acronym for mass, energy, time and space] I am proposing the existence of our universe between two infinities probably meeting at every point of the universe. The large scale infinity i.e. the relative infinity or spatial infinity ensconses gravity.This is on the larger scale from every physical point, be it a mountain or an atom. On the smaller scale there is a quantum infinity which can reach to zero only if divided into 2 for infinite times. Therfore , mathmatically it never reaches to zero or a singularity.The large scale infinity at every mathematical point makes a curve over space time to meet the small scale infinity. At a proposed point of singularity, the laws of quantum universe break and only gravity remains.
The impasse we see in the quest of toe is primarily because of the fact that
we are dealing with one entity having four attributes-- mass, energy, time and space.

Gautam

Re: Singularity As Separate Entity

I would like to address some flaws in founding postulates of your theory. I have given some part of your theory in bold and then I’ve given the flaw.

When you mention your first characteristic that you attribute to singularity namely, Matter you say:

Mass is a property of space-time universe. According to John Earman, mass cannot exist in singularity. If we define singularity as the origin but out of our space-time universe, we have to take it as a no-mass entity.
The Einstein formula for a mass in motion is;
m = m0 / sqrt (1-v 2/c 2)

Read the italic part of your statement: for a mass in motion. But to apply such relativistic formula you need relative motion and that too in space-time universe. Singularity was deprived of mass as you wrote according to John Earman: mass cannot exist in singularity. Then how will you apply a formula related with mass to Singularity which is massless. Further you assume that Singularity is out of our space-time but before that you said that mass is a property of space-time. Isn’t this a paradox?

I can give you one more drawback:

According to Big Bang Theory quarks first appeared after cosmic inflation. The vacuum energy transforms itself to particles and anti-particles of matter in equal number. So at the beginning of time there was no mass present. Unless we assume that the ultra dense matter turned to pure energy before reformation to matter particle. We can as well assume that universe started with a burst of energy. With this assumption singularity does not have to contain mass.

In this conclusion you say that singularity does not contain mass that is in other words zero mass. But if mass m is zero then according to Einstein’s famous equation,
e = mc^2 if we put m = 0 then e = 0 which means singularity doesn’t has any energy. Then how come universe started with burst of energy from zero energy? Further Law of Conservation of energy doesn’t allows e = 0.

With these two flaws I come to a conclusion that Singularity is not massless but all mass is converted into energy.

Dear Michael i have thought of this sort of conversion but to energy and not to stillness and then rebirth into another dimension. adding to this i would say that not only the matter may change its dimension but also its original form- from solid to liquid or gas or plasma state or even anti-matter. we dont know that form. but as in case of Heisenberg's uncertainty principle there must be some probabilities to what form the matter will convert. with this i also propose a quite eccentric thought that during the conversion of this matter into something -it may take a lot of time for its rebirth- the total mass of the matter which is phased out of existence or being converted into energy, may not be seen but accounts to the total energy of the universe and this can be the so called dark energy! and when this is reborn as something, more matter is being converted into energy which is dark during the conversion process at the singularity. this cycle goes on, and as there can be many black holes with singularities, there can be a large amount of dark energy which accounts to the total energy of the universe and thus satisfying the Big Bang theory's postulate of dark energy. as i have said this a strange concept with all kinds of doubts.

Re: Singularity As Separate Entity

It seems to me that black holes are the points or intersections where the transmission of information takes place . It appears that black holes may be every where. In the subatomic world as well as the cosmos. I believe this from observing my models on structure. www.spaceclusters.org

Many thanks Andy for your most interesting reply.Coverersion from solid to liquid
