Quantum Determinism and Consciousness

The extended physical environment forms the fundamental substrate for developing consciousness. An understanding of the components and the dynamic of this environment is thus essential when engaging the concept of consciousness. The reality that we perceive through our five senses represents a very narrow spectrum of a more extensive environment. This greater environment is referred to as the singularity as opposed to the five-senses based environment which is referred to as the dimension of relativity.

The Dimension of Relativity

This dimension is true to all that our five senses have conveyed to us. We recognize individual entities, both living and non-living, all having specific traits in terms of color, shape, mass, texture, smell and taste. In many cases there is also a characteristic sound. Individual entities however enjoy unique space and are separated from each other by distance. The progression of time also brings about recognizable changes in the individual entities. Associations between entities both living and non-living also become discernable. This is the environment that we are familiar with. Importantly, in the relativity dimension, nothing travels faster than the speed of light.

The Singularity

The evolving study of quantum physics has shed light on the existence of a whole new reality in which you and I and indeed the entire universe has representation. Matter exists simultaneously in both a physical/mass form in the relativity dimension as well as in an energy/frequency form in the singularity. Within the singularity dimension, matter appears to be connected not only across space but also across the gulf of time. This is referred to as nonlocality. Experimentally, nonlocality has demonstrated instantaneous connectivity between two or more entities. The connectivity occurred at speeds faster than the speed of light and was thus independent of time and space. In addition, the consciousness of the observer has been shown to influence the outcome of nonlocality experiments. The intrusion of consciousness tended to shift entities from the singularity into the relativity dimension.

Energy-frequency exists in the form of specific "packets" or quanta (one quantum, hence the name quantum physics). Just as a vibrating tuning fork stimulates another tuning fork of similar vibrational frequency (or harmonic thereof) through the phenomenon of resonance, so similar energy quanta may activate each other through resonance. The singularity may therefore be defined as a dimension characterized by the presence of the energy equivalent of physical entities devoid of time, mass and distance. However the energy representation must be in the form of identifiable quanta which retain their individual integrity so that when in the relativistic dimension the mass is re-materialized. I propose that within the singularity, the phenomenon of resonance occurs between similar energy quanta or through the harmonics thereof. This in itself would contribute to the connectedness of the dimension. In this way the instantaneous transfer of information takes place which may become manifest in mass entities existing within the relativistic dimension.

The challenge is to propose some process which unifies the two dimensions, each with their unique, proven properties. According to Einstein’s theory of relativity, when mass is accelerated to velocities close to the speed of light, its mass tends to increase towards infinity. At a critical mass relative to its volume (Schwartzschild radius), the mass-volume can no longer be maintained and it collapses in on itself. It converts into a black hole and exits the relativity dimension and enters singularity. One speculates that if the acceleration and resultant velocity diminishes below the threshold speed, matter re-enters and re-forms in the relativity dimension. One way of explaining the existence of a constant acceleration and deceleration situation is if all physical matter in the Universe rotates near the speed of light (peri-luminal speeds). Velocity along the circumference of rotation (angular velocity) can be viewed as an average velocity of individual segments of circumference and velocity. With changing vectors of force and acceleration along the circumference there are incremental changes in angular velocity. As the circumferential path changes at the start of the next increment, the angular velocity has diminished below the threshold value because the previous vectors of force and acceleration have diminished as the new vectors increase angular velocity in a different direction. Hence the mass re-emerges from singularity at the lower velocity, experiences the new vector influences, accelerates to threshold angular velocity and re-enters the singularity. In this way the process repeats itself and in fact establishes an oscillation between the singularity and the relativistic dimension.

Quantum theory describes matter as conforming to wave configurations (Shrodinger). The wave configuration represents statistical possibilities of outcome on re-emergence from the singularity back into the relativistic domain. Once an entity has returned to the relativistic domain there are no further possibilities regarding alternative outcomes. The entity has moved from possibility to actuality. As entities actualize, the wave of possibility "collapses".

The living human brain within the relativistic dimension records information relating to mass, energy, distance and associations thereof. Organically recorded information within the brain is itself subject to the oscillation described above and in this way will influence the energy equivalent quanta of mass entities within the singularity. The mode of influence is explained through resonance of the representative energy of the mass itself with the energy equivalent quantum representing the stored form of the mass and its associations within the neurological structures of the brain. Expressed in different terms, the energy interactions or perpetual flux of the singularity represent the Shrodinger wave of possibilities. It is the associations of the entities as represented in the human brain which biases specific resonant connections and which becomes manifest on re-materialization. This process in effect collapses a segment of the wave of possibilities. The influence of human consciousness upon non-locality phenomena has been clearly demonstrated. It appears that the human brain may be a convergence point through which flux originating within the singularity, attains manifestation by wave collapse within the domain of relativity.

Facets of determinism are manifest in the individual components of this integration which includes basic elemental properties, the relativistic and nonlocality milieu’s as well as human consciousness. The properties of the basic elements have remained unchanged since the origin of our earthly environment. The properties of the elements determines their interaction with all other elements which in turn gives rise to our physical environment. It is these basic elements which have supported the evolution from simple, inanimate compounds, to compound organic matter which in turn has evolved into living organisms.

The second law of thermodynamics states that systems are inherently driven to move to their lowest energy states – a state characterized by maximum disorder or entropy. The properties of our basic elements and their interactions have remained remarkably constant. In effect they have defied the second law of thermodynamics because the integrities of the elements are maintained. Consequently the interpretation is that the fundamental properties of the elements have been deterministically programmed to support the evolution from the primordial elemental state into life forms with the ultimate emergence of human consciousness.

The interaction of mass-energy within the relativistic physical domain is determined by the collective of intrinsic elemental properties within a perpetually changing milieu. This dynamic is modulated by nonlocality influences operating independent of time and space. In this way, the behaviour of mass-energy entities is modified and orchestrated by timeless-spaceless data representing similar entities (subatomic, atomic and molecular). The mode of influence is instantaneous resonance (independent of time and space constraints). Clearly the wave was "collapsed" at the outset. Matter is programmed for constancy with a deterministic outcome through a process which is self-perpetuating and does not require intervention or maintenance.

Any theory which proposes the incorporation of deterministic factors would need to allude to the determined purpose of the entire evolutionary process. It would seem apparent that consciousness, or more specifically, human consciousness, represents the final stage of this biological process. Co-creatorship is thus our birthright.

Life Explained.

It is, of course, that atoms make it,
Through a casual nexus
Of physical-chemical reactions;
However, this observation cannot
Be equated to an “explanation”,
For it seems not to be reductive,
And so we must delve deeper,
For there may very well be a background
Behind what the chemicals do.

According to the quantum realm,
“Matter” is only composed of potentiality—
It only becomes matter when it’s “real-ized”.

In a stable configuration of matter,
Such as in the inanimate,
All the quantum uncertainties
Are effectively statistically averaged out,
This thus being deterministic;
But in the case of the statically unstable
But dynamically stable configurations,
The “lively” features of the underlying
Quantum structure have a chance to surface
To the macroscopic level; that is, to life.

The electric dipole moment of biomolecules
Might be the ordering parameter
For the corresponding macro-quantum system,
And so this results in a change in quality
For that macro configuration.

There is the particle and there is the wave—
Either one forced on us by our observations,
Being jointly known as the ‘wavicle’,
All three states of which are not the actual reality.

There are, strictly speaking, no objects
That are identical with themselves over time—
The temporal sequence remains open;
Nature is no longer seen as clockwork,
But only as a “possibility gestalt”,
The world occurring anew each moment.

The deeper reality from which the world arises,
In each case, acts as a unity
In the sense of an indivisible “potentiality”,
Which can realize itself in many possible ways,
It not being a strict sum of the partial states.

What remains unchanged over time
Are certain properties that find expression
In the laws of conservation of energy,
Momentum, electrical charge, etc.

It appears to us, though,
That the world consists of parts
That have continued from “a moment ago”,
And thus still retain their identity in time;
Yet, matter really only appears secondarily
As a congealed potentiality,
A congealed gestalt, as it were.

Physical phenomena are not made
Of basic building blocks
But are made of “elementary processors”,
Which are complex-valued field “operators”
That depend on time and location.

These generate certain overlappings
Of correlated multi-dimensional wave fields
That are propagating through time,
Fields of possibility,
Whose intensity is a measure
Of the probability of
An object-like realization,
This intensity being very sensitive
To the relative phase
Of the overlapping partial waves.

There are no point masses,
But only smudged particles,
Such as we know of
In the space-filling representations
Of the distribution of electrons
In the shells of atoms—the ‘cloud’.

There is a relationship structure
That arises not only from the manifold
And the complicated interactions
Of the imagined building blocks of matter,
But also one that is substantially more inherent
And holistic, again such as
We see in quantum physics.

So, there is form before substance,
Relationality before materiality.

It’s hard to imagine
Pure relationships existing
Without a material substrate,
But, consider electromagnetism:
It fills space—without a material substrate,
Or consider a music CD—
Its singers and instruments encoded
In a relationship structure.

The material CD is only a carrier,
Of secondary importance,
Its information being primary,
An analogy to particles
And waves’ descriptions.

Impressions of realizations
Are left in our 3-D world by the gestalt
That “lives” in the multi-dimensional spaces
Of quantum superpositional possibility.

Quantum systems
Of many quantum states
Are not so much systems
As they are holistically differentiated
Process structures.

However, considering them as systems,
They are complex, meaning here
That such systems cannot be reduced
To simpler systems
Without breaking connections;
Thus there can be no reductions,
For, as in chaos theory,
There are embedded instabilities—
And if we disregard even
The tiniest correlations
Then we may severely distort the result.

We can no longer just analyze the parts
But must try to use much more
Sophisticated statistical methods,
These being more than the simple probability
To which we are accustomed.

Waves can reinforce,
Weaken, or even cancel out,
This all being a kind of generation

Of partial disconnectedness
By intermediate extinctions,
Such as in the way
A biological organism forms
From a single cell
By successive cell divisions,
Which do not occur by parting,
But by repeated formation of
Semi-separating cells walls;
However, this is only a very rough analogy.

Via metabolism,
Life forms have a
Sufficiently powerful energy pump,
One that could conceivably generate states
Of thermal disequilibirium
In molecular systems
Embedded in certain substrates
That would excite certain
Low-frequency collective modes
Of vibration with great power,
Perhaps via mechanisms similar
To Bose-Einstein condensation,
The electric dipoles coming into play
As an ordering parameter;
However, this is not
A conclusive, direct connection.

Information appears only in the animate,
And is furthermore exchanged,
The meanings somehow combining
To make sense in
Some nonreductive process—
The relational reality of life happening
At this semantical level
Of information exchange.

Life is not mindless; it is inspired;
It’s meanings cannot be
Discovered by observation,
But only by participation.

Life’s entities embrace one another:
Cell, organism, species, and biotope.

A living creature is more like a poem,
Revealing further dimensions
And expressing new properties
At every level of organization:
Letter, word, sentence and [uni]verse.

Somehow, perhaps, quantum states
That continue on further
In the quantum superposition
Have reached more efficiency and effectiveness,
For all paths are tried out,
Just as in the 95% efficient
Photosynthesis methods seen,
And so that’s what collapses out of it,
The more productive paths that last,
One usually with the least amount of effort, too.

Semantics and the linear logic of the "left hemisphere" begin to fail me when approaching this quantum frontier. It feels more appropriate to drift into the non-linear, emotional and big-picture functions of the "right hemisphere". For here I begin to feel the dance of the dimensions of relativity and singularity. The feeling morphs into clarity of perception of an awesome dynamic in which human consciousness collapses small segments of the flux of infinite singularity superposition into relativity - each collapse uniquely appropriate for that unique subjective consciousness. And no sooner manifest in relativity space, the co-created entity provides new superposition substrate for future wave collapse. And so we are all evolving individualy within our own unique consciousness and simulataneously through co-creatorship, enhancing the collective superposition potential of the singularity - in an eternal creative dance where everything changes. As David Bohm said " There are no nouns, only slow verbs!" And what is the most resourceful mind state required to behold and to consciously participate in the dance? Einstein already alluded to this. It is the mind state of the lover - passionate and unfettered it alligns with the bigger picture. I will end by making a totally unsubstantiated and unscientific, subjective statement - that the source files of the universe have deterministically manifest human consciousness and co-creatorship; that the passion of human creativity maintains the dance. Since we have two brain hemispheres, one being linear for the details and one being holistically parallel for the entire scene, and considering that we are the universe come to life then this is a big clue as to how the universe works.

Any theory which proposes the incorporation of deterministic factors would need to allude to the determined purpose of the entire evolutionary process. It would seem apparent that consciousness, or more specifically, human consciousness, represents the final stage of this biological process. Co-creatorship is thus our birthright.

Here's one of my old way out theories: Evolution first proceeded apace in quantum superpositional form only, not real or real-ized, all paths going forward, if they can, brute force 'tried', as happens with the quantum realm, until one great path led to mammal consciousness, which then actual-ized all reality, after which evolution continued on in the real realm.

BECOMING

We humans mirror and recapitulate
All of evolution while growing in our mother’s womb,
Racing through the stages in which life evolved.

During this nine months, and even beyond that,
We move from mindlessness to shadowy awareness
To consciousness of the world around us
Onto consciousness of the self
And then even to becoming conscious
Of consciousness itself.

For the first two and one-half years of life,
The inexplicable holistic world
Is experienced less and less holistically
As the child discovers the
Bounds of discrete objects.

The holistic right brain remains, of course,
For us to take in the overall view,
While the logical left brain is also there to recognize
The detailed relationships between objects.

As such, so goes the universe,
Since we are formed in its image.

So, then, this gives us a clue
To the nature of the universe.

Seeing that the brain is
Divided into two hemispheres,
Each with their own
Characteristic mode of thought,
That that can communicate with each other—
Means that we are looking very deeply
Into the way that reality itself is constructed.

These two complimentary aspects
To the cosmos are thus absolutely essential,
One being of the whole:
The apparently indivisible,
Continuous fluid entity
[Although discrete at unnoticeable levels],
The other being the interrelationships of the parts.

Each interpretation cannot appear
At exactly the same time,
But the Yin ever gives way to Yang
And ever then back to Yin, and so on,
The rounded life of the mind
Thus continuing to fully roll
As the cycle of this symmetry
Turns and returns;
If not, one either gets totally lost
In the details or prematurely halts
After but an apparent whole.

The holistic right brain mode is unfocused,
As we see in some people
Who are unconcerned with details,
It always building the scene in parallel
To form a single entity;
Whereas, the focused left side of brain
Isolates a target of interest and tracks it
And its derivatives sequentially and serially.

Yet, the two sides of the overall brain
Are connected to each other
And so the speed of the juggling act
Can meld them together
Into a complete balance like that
Portrayed by the revolving Yin-Yang symbol,
Each ever receding and giving rise to the other
Such does the universe go both ways, too,
Its separate parts implicated
With everything else in the whole.

During conscious observation,
The ‘hereness’ and ‘nowness’
Of reality crystalizes and remains,
We establishing what that reality is to some extent.

We define and refine the nature of reality
That leads to the mind’s outlook.

Counterintuitive? Cyclical?

Yes, but it is the universe in dialog with itself;
The wave functions, and yet the function waves.

The universe supplies the means of its own creation,
Its possibilities supplying the avenues
And the probability and workability
That carve out the paths leading to success.

So, here we are, then and now,
The rains of change falling everywhere,
The streams being carved out,
The water rising back up to the sky,
The rain then falling everywhere,
The streams recarving and meandering
Toward more meaning and so on.
