You are talking Hamiltonian integration. Why dont you try Lagrangian differentiation, i.e., the subtraction of "fusion instants?"

The fusion engine won't work for a very simple reason, you always need to pump more energy into it in order to get more energy out of it and it is a logarithmically increasing requirement. Therefore it can never be self-sustaining. A good metaphor would be the acelleration of the expanding universe.
