The perfect thermonuclear fusion reaction is the nucleosynthesis of two deuterium atoms directly into a single helium atom plus excess energy: D+D®He+energy. This never occurs in the early universe due to the rare abundance of deuterium atoms and their sensitivity to local density and temperature fluctuations. Since the hadrons era of the big bang, protons and neutrons can directly, by still unknown processes, synthesize into hydrogen and helium atoms with abundance ratio 3 to 1 without first producing deuterium atoms, whose abundance ratio to hydrogen is 1 to 30 thousands. In the labs here on earth, this reaction is known as the perfect cold fusion reaction, it is perfect because there is no radioactive by-products, a perfectly clean and almost waste free, and 100% efficiency reaction.
The big question is why nature prefers quick and random wastefulness and inefficiency when it is concerned with energy production? On the other hand, once these energies are produced nature always distributes them equally and accordingly at thermodynamic equilibrium of blackbody radiation which is a minimum process for energy rationing and conservation, a sign of cosmic frugality.
